In general, a "yes" could be answered to each of your questions as to motives and the underlying sexual energy in these encounters. It really depends on the two (or more) involved and what is driving them. I've had some experience with this, but I can only speak from my personal perspective. My role was (more or less) the clothed one, although that was fluid depending on the desires of the nude one. In most cases, the nude party is an exhibitionist and gets a sexual thrill out of being naked in front of guys, especially if they're clothed. In almost all cases, they desired more than one in the encounter, although settled for one (me) if that's all that was available and willing. So, exhibition was the #1 motivator. A distant second place on the part of the nude guy was a desire to be dominated and feeling subjected to the whims of another man; sometimes "humiliation" played a part, and sometimes not. Most of the time, nude subject got a thrill out of showing off, being the subject of muscle-worship, and to feel physically appreciated.

From a clothed perspective, it was easier. All one had to do was sit back and enjoy the view or subject the nude guy to whatever you both wanted to do. About half the time, the encounters would end up mutually nude (or nearly so) and often sex would result in which both got off.

Communication is key in encounters like this, especially if you don't know each other well. I was very clear, going into it, what their motives were for wanting to do this, and what they expected of me as well as themselves. If I thought their motives and mine were aligned, then it was a go.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I had not considered that exhibitionism might also be a motivation for the NM. In my sexual play, I now realize that CMNM may have been a short to prolonged span of my play - for example someone arriving at my home, then stripping or being stripped upon entering, though eventually both of us almost always ended up naked. And for those in positions of authority enjoying being the NM, that also makes sense. I am not sure I'm a nudist at heart, but I have have many fantasies about nude camping trips and hikes. I have never been judgmental regarding CMNM, but curious - and now considering how I might incorporate such play (with the right person) into my own play. And of course I'll continue enjoying images and videos exhibiting CMNM, but with a greater understanding of the appeal and mindset behind such play.
