So, I suppose you could say I'm sort of new to the gay scene. I'm still only 18, and in Toronto, I can't go to clubs or bars and stuff. I don't know any gay people, other than my brother, and a handful of others.

Recently, my manager at work told me about this guy she hired and she thinks he's really cute. She told me that he's "open" and she seemed very excited for me. I don't know why she was so excited, but I'm not really interested, especially after seeing pictures of him.

Now, he works during the day, and I work at night. So, I'll never work with him. But, another one of my managers told me today that before his interview, he was chatting with other people from my store, and he is buddy-buddy with some of my bosses.

I don't know if this is normal, but I'm feeling an odd sense of jealousy. I mean, I thought I was the only gay person at my store, and now he comes. And, he's sort of making me feel like I'm going to be outshone by him. I've been at my job for five months now, and I made great friends, but maybe my story has gotten old and the people there need a new gay to play with.

Tell me, am I being ridiculous for thinking this way? I actually told a fellow employee that I don't like this new kid and that being gay is my thing at work .

You work nights and he works days What kind of attention?

I don't want him to be friends with the managers. The managers love me, and I love them. If he comes along, will they no longer love me? I don't want them talking about him! Hmmph.

So they like both of you what is the big deal My suggestion is anytime you have to deal with him just kill him with kindness. Like you said you are new to the gay scene. He might just suprise you

You're sounding really stuck up right now, & exceptionally childish! Tell them the David story!

Then go fuck the dude just for fun, then you both will have the managers attention. hehehehe

on a more serious note: Business should be seperated from friendship, at least while on the job.

I don't like his appearance! LOL.

The manager who first told me about him was so excited for me. I think she thinks that because I'm gay, I'm going to want to date any other gay person. But, like...I still have standards. LOL.

I think this is what I'll do!

Thank you very much, sir.

YES! You are being ridiculous. Then again, you're only 18; a certain amount of ridiculousness is expected. :)

That must be what it's like to have to share the limelight with a brother or sister, no?

hehe

my first thought was "i'm the only gay in the village" too.

and yes, you are being ridiculous. i find it hard to believe that anyone would think this way.

It's not that abnormal, the way you're feeling. People like feeling like they're individuals. And in a group of people, everyone likes having their little niche, so they can feel like they belong. If you've become the "token gay", then it's understandable you'd feel jealousy toward someone who has come along and knocked you off your perch.

But I would say, if your co-workers like you, it's more likely that they like you because of the type of person you are, rather than your sexual orientation. Your personality is what should make you special, not whether you like guys or girls. So while I can understand your position, I think you're overreacting.

You're letting your gayness define you at work, why not let your personality define you instead?

I suppose you can always work on getting him fired. Or find another all-straight business to go work at.

I never heard someone being jealous because they wanted to be the only gay person in the store so they can get all the attention. Maybe this is a good thing he could open new doors in your life to the "scene"
