With the release of the tape where Cohen and Trump are discussing the possibly illegal payoff to the National Enquirer for his mistress's story, we seem to be entering a new phase in the unmasking of the dirty little secrets, so it seems like a new thread to track them is merited.

This morning, it is breaking that Trump did indeed know about the meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower (surprise, not surprised)

President Trump’s former longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen claims that Trump had prior knowledge of the infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump campaign officials and a Russian lawyer, CNN reported Thursday.

Sources told CNN that Cohen claims that he was with Trump when Donald Trump Jr. told him of the offer from Russians and that Trump approved going ahead with the meeting.

It appears that he is willing to talk to Mueller about this.

Cohen isn't the fount of credibility some would like to give him. He's shown he isn't trustworthy, people may cheer and yahoo because he secretly recorded his client, but by doing that he showed he can't be trusted and if he's brought into a court room, his image and credibility is diminished. He's probably effectively ruined his career as an attorney, who will trust him from now on knowing he could possibly be recording their conversations. He's likely to be disbarred. Cohen hurt himself more than helped himself.

His real business has been taxicabs....I think that Trump and Hannity may have been the only clients he ever had.

He knows that he could go to prison for a long, long time for all kinds of reasons.....and even if pardoned for federal crimes, they are going to nail him on state crimes.

Unless he had an idea where this was going to go, so he recorded the conversations to cover his butt if things went south. He knew for a long time that he couldn't trust Trump and was wise to keep some insurance.

So, Trump's team of lawyers is threatening Cohen to shut up or else. But...

President Donald Trump’s legal team has warned his former fixer, Michael Cohen, to stop speaking out and violating lawyer-client confidentiality, the president’s attorney Rudy Giuliani told ABC News Saturday.

The warning comes just six days after Trump’s team waived lawyer-client privilege concerning a recorded conversation between Cohen and his former boss apparently about a payment to former Playboy model who has said she and Trump had a long-running affair.

“We have complained” to Cohen’s lawyers that “he’s violated the attorney-client privilege, publicly and privately,” Giuliani told the network. Giuliani said Cohen is in “grave danger of being disbarred.”

But Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, told Huffpost in a statement that Giuliani “seems to be confused.”

Giuliani “expressly waived attorney-client privilege last week and repeatedly and inaccurately — as proven by the tape — talked and talked about the recording, forfeiting all confidentiality,” Davis said.

So, Giuliani declares that 'collusion' is not a crime:

Rudy Giuliani said Monday that President Donald Trump didn’t collude with the Russians in the 2016 election ― and that it wouldn’t be a crime even if he did.

Giuliani, one of Trump’s attorneys, railed against special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia interference in the election and whether Trump obstructed justice during two TV interviews Monday.

“I have been sitting here looking in the federal code trying to find collusion as a crime,” Giuliani said on “Fox & Friends.” “Collusion is not a crime.”

So obviously, they are expecting Trump to be found to have colluded with the Russians.

I don't know if collusion is a crime, but I would think that aiding and abetting a hostile foreign state to interfere in the elections would be.

Trump is running scared. He's terrified of Mueller and has called on Jeff Sessions to end the investigation:

“This is a terrible situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further,” Trump tweeted. “Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!”

The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.

One would think that, after all his denials, if he truly has nothing to hide and that there truly wasn't any collusion with the Russians, he would simply let Mueller continue the investigation and clear his name instead of doing everything he can to make him look as guilty as sin. Still, isn't that what stable geniuses who are, like, really smart do?
