Does anyone know anything about selling old coins? I recently acquired a few but after a quick look online I see that most of them are worth only a little more than their face value.

Is that the end of it? How would one go about selling them? Even if I make 20 bucks off them, that would be worth it.

since it's a small number of pieces you could try a local coin shop or pawn shop; probably wouldn't get much for the 1881 Morgan dollar...lots of 'em on ebay

1854 half dime with arrows is fairly common as well

the half dime was originally a silver coin.
I think hording during the Civil War caused the government to issue nickel coins; the 3 cent nickel and then the 5 cent nickel coin

I mainly collect ancient, medieval, and European coinage through to the 18th century.

can someone tell me what this is - I found similiar in research but nothing exact - his head is facing the wrong direction for any others I found that were similar and I found nothing with the horse on the reverse

Most "old" coins are common date which can be easily found out by visiting various coin dealers web sights. Mint marks, die varieties and the grade of the coin have to be taken into consideration as well. If you do to a coin shop get more than one opinion.

A good example of die varieties would be the 1973 Canadian Quarter

Many coin dealers won't check for the difference and will buy the coin at the price paid for the more common variety. When I worked for a coin dealer I went through the safe where we kept proof like sets from Canada and found at least 10 proof like sets that had been purchased as the regular 1973 variety and not checked to see if they had the 1972 obverse. The difference was about $150.
