That thread made me think of my collections, too! In particular my "Things Made From Dead Animals" collection, which has some fun things... like my armadillo purse made from a whole armadillo, my stuffed sea turtle playing a harp, my cross-section of a horse's ankle, various fur wraps made from animals with heads and feet still attached, an alligator purse with head and feet attached, a coin purse made from a cane toad, a couple of dried and inflated puffer-fish, and a large assortment of little brown frogs stuffed and varnished and posed to play little musical instruments, or to play pool, or to sit at a little bar, or helping a drunk buddy home.

I also collect elephants of all sorts, and I collect Suzanne Somers jewelry, and I collect DVDs of movies made from Shakespeare plays. And on occasion, I collect dollhouse miniatures, but the whim comes and goes (mostly when I'm unemployed and anxious) so I haven't got much of a collection yet.

I use to collect comics--it was probably a pretty valuable collection when I gave it away, but I needed to move on. I don't collect anything anymore...keeps the clutter down.

I don't have any real collections, but I seem to amass:

Tons of books
Random drafting/typography related tools
Art
Exes

I don't really collect anything, like to keep the mess down in my house.

I collect counties. There is a map showing every county in the U.S. I've been through. It's wonderful.

A couple of years ago, I realized that, by default, I was beginning quite the collection of Salt and Pepper shakers. I realized this because I was cleaning out an old cabinet and had about 50 sets. I'd never paid for one; just for some reason they'd been given to me, been in a house, or whatever. They just had bred.

They are readily found, unique, and some actually have some value.

So now at garage sales and the like, if they are under a dollar, I'll pick one up.

Coolest one I have so far is one from a 1950's First Class American Airlines service. Paid 50 cents. Found out they are worth $10.

i have a penny collection!
I think I own every year from 1959-2009

and I have like 1912, 1918, and 1944.

Anything thing dating back farther than 1960 is insanely hard to find!

As a child I collected matchbooks and buttons. I still have most of them taking up space. Anybody wanna buy a 1968 Pierre Trudeau campaign button?
As an adult I collect masks and giraffes and fine china.

comic books and various action figures. i just purchased a cylon centurion from battlestar galactica: razor. its neat-o.

I have at least 1.5TB of porn from most of the major online studios. I stopped for a bit last year cuz I stopped jacking off to porn and I wanted to free up some cash, but I started back up again in July even though I still don't jack off to it. I stopped again, though. My 10-year old pentium-4 Dell died on me and I have to keep my laptop clean because of work.

I have a collection of corks from the wine and champagne that I've drank for the past couple years. For some reason I drink lots of Kendall-Jackson. I have a coffee table that's kind of a display case with glass on top of some drawers and I put the corks in there until if filled up. Now I toss them into a tall glass vase.

I also collect the labels of the vino, and beers as well. I made a collage out of some of them to decorate our bar area.

I keep all the issues of National Geographic I've received since I subscribed the year after graduating from college. It's up to 18 years' worth now. My parents have them dating back to 1963.

I also keep every book I ever buy.

I have several pieces of Van Briggle pottery, but not really enough to call it a "collection". I also have a number of family antiques, heirlooms, what-have-you -- things like cut glass, china sets, silver pieces, and so on. I seem to accumulate things as various friends and relatives downsize, die off, move away, or whatever.

Rocks, I love da rocks! They fascinate me.

And before it's said, no, not the crack rocks. :p

I collect guns. I have about 30 so far, but I haven't been buying as many as I used to. There are so many more I want.

And knives. I really like knives, but my collection isn't as neat and organized as my guns. I just have knives everywhere.

I also tend to collect clutter, and the unwanted attention of some very "interesting" people. Not sure what that's about, but it makes for some interesting times.

For me, it was watches; particularly Fossil brand watches, back when they made truly interesting and unique designs. I think I have close to 60, and yes, I did switch off and wear them all. I'm seeing really cool watches now from other manufacturers and am getting the bug again......

I forgot I inherited my Grandma's Matchbook Cover collection.

The ones from 1936-1964 are all in a big binder. 1965-2005 are still filling two drawers in her dresser. No idea what to do with them.

One of the most unique is from the Original Bob's Big Boy, vintage.
