College hoops

Congrats on the win last night, Sparty! I watched most of it. Looks like Izzo got their attention at halftime.

Michigan gets Illinois at home today. If they're back, this is a game they should win. Illinois coming off the big win at Purdue earlier in the week.

Im a huge Vols fan and Bruce Pearl has done wonders for our basketball program. I am excited to see how far we can go, but the SEC is way down this year. Arkansas' win over Oklahoma was big for the league's RPI.

Yeah, that was a disappointing 2 hours of yelling at the TV screen..

I was watching "Marley and Me" (almost cried, but I stifled it) so I didn't get to watch the game but I'm glad to see we won. I thought UI was gonna be able to pull that out, but I guess I was wrong. Now I'm listening to the guys on BTN talk about the UI-UM rivalry...didn't know such a rivalry existed.

Illinois and Michigan used to play some great games in the late 80's/early 90's. Those were some great days in the Big 10. Back then, the Big 10 followed the Big East on Big Monday. There weren't as many games on TV then, and every Monday night was a big game.

BTW, how was "Marley and Me"? Loved the book, but I'm not much of a movie person.

Ahh well that would explain it; I didn't pay much attention to college hoops until about 2000. The movie was good, probably worth seeing if you liked the book. My roomie said the book was really good, though I haven't read it.

In 1989 when Michigan won the NCAA they played Illinois in the first game of the Final Four. Bo Schembechler was AD then. His entire speech to the team: "It's Illinois." All that needed to be said. Michigan crushed them. There is a long history of bad feelings between the two schools, football even more so than basketball.

And of course today we beat them.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that UNC lost to BC. God if only we could have done that a month ago. It's way too early to say, but I wonder who is gonna win it all this year?

UNC definitely still the favorite. BC played a great game tonight, and UNC did not. BC pushes you around, and it flustered Hansbrough and UNC. UNC missed free throws, and BC had guards that not only didn't turn the ball over, they made shots. Tyrese Rice is nasty. You'll remember that he had a huge day vs UNC last year. BC was up a lot at half of that game, only to see UNC come back and win.

UNC at Wake next Sunday night should be a good one.

On the banks of the Red Cedar, there's a school that's known to all, its specialty is winning, and those Spartans play good ball. Spartan teams are never beaten, all through the games they'll fight, fight for the only colors, green and white. Go right through for MSU, watch the points keep growing, Spartan teams are bound to win they're fighting with a vim, RAH! RAH! RAH! See their team is weakening, we're gonna win this game; Fight! Fight! Rah, team fight! Victory for MSU!

Just showin some Spartan love with our fight song.

How about that UT/UA game? That was intense!

Some fight song action there, eh. Nice!

As we keep looking for someone to emerge in the SEC West, Arkansas might be raising its hand high. Wins over Texas and Oklahoma now. We'll see what they can do in conference play.

Gonzaga and Tennessee meet again tonight. While it looked like a potential Final Four matchup when they played over Thanksgiving, now both teams come in needing a lift.

Conference play underway for everyone this weekend. Can't wait!

Man I was hoping Davidson was gonna beat Duke...it was fun to watch the second half though. I'm still surprised PSU beat Purdue last night! 2 More days until Kansas...Go Green!

Right there with ya man . . . wanted Duke to go down big. Watched for like 3.5 seconds until I saw the Duke was surprisingly not getting called for fouls and then changed it. As discussed, I know a lot of people hate Duke, some just cause it's easy, but I've always hated them.

Coach K's a jack ass and i hate their fans.

Now that that's out of the way.

Tenn/Zaga game was fun . . . although the no call on Tatum's goaltend at the end of regulation was a joke. I love me some Wayne Chism. Although Tenn was playing like the UConn huskies for most of the game . . . jacking up outside shots rather than running offense. Jay Williams was on espn last night doing commentary and he said if UConn doesn't run real offense and just let's Price/Dyson jack up shots like their in the nba they're not going to go far this year. I actually can't stand Dyson, even if he helps them win.

Big Ten's looking good so far. Still can't believe the current standings...Michigan near the top and Purdue near the bottom...things are really shakin' up this year!

Yeah other than Indiana the Big Ten looks VERY good, I think their problem is that everyone but a couple teams will beat up on each other so much that they all end up with average conference records. MSU looks like the team to beat to me though.

ACC conference action really gets going this weekend, Saturday sees Duke at FSU, NC State at Clemson, Georgia Tech at Maryland, Virginia at VT, and Boston College at Miami. Then Sunday is the HUGE game UNC @ wake Forest. I am gonna be glued to the TV all weekend.;)

Yes, I agree that it looks like a lot of teams are gonna have average records. I would love to think that MSU is the team to beat, but as is tradition with Spartan sports, we always find a way to mess things up.

How about Harvard beating BC? Man that was great. I know I'll be rooting for FSU to upset Duke...I'm hoping it happens. I can't stand how everyone is on Duke's nuts year after year. I'm sick of hearing about the "Cameron Crazies"

I can't wait to be back at the Bres rootin' on the Spartans as we beat Kansas. Gonna be so much fun.

Oh hell yeah! Victory for MSU!

(Just because that victory calls for a celebration)

Congrats once again to Sparty! Ed Hightower and company did their best to let KU back in the game in the second half.

Anyone catch the Louisville-Villanova game? How does Nova not get that final basket? Someone needed to jump up and dunk instead of tip the ball around.

Georgia didn't have quite enough for Pearl's Tennessee crew. Dennis Felton does things the right way, and has cleaned up Harrick's mess at UGA. Unfortunately, I think he's cleaning it up for the next coach to succeed.

It is January 10, so Clemson must be unbeaten. I think this is a legit team, but let's see what that record is in a month. I think NC State is awful.

Georgia Tech was the better team for 30 minutes today against Maryland. They just couldn't close the deal. Is anyone else attracted to Maryland PG Greivis Vasquez? Not sure why, but I have a fascination with him.

I went out tonight to watch Syracuse-Rutgers. If you didn't see it, check out ESPN for highlights of Jonny Flynn's facial during the second half. I've seen Jonny out at the mall, he's barely 6 feet tall, but he got up their tonight against RU. Cuse now 4-0 in the Big East. It gets tough now though. Their next 4 games are at Georgetown, home vs Notre Dame, at Pittsburgh, home vs Louisville.

Wisconsin at Purdue (1:30pm CBS), North Carolina at Wake Forest (8pm FSN), and UCLA at USC (10:30pm FSN) top tomorrow's action.
