College hoops

Well Michigan man-handled Iowa and I'm excited to see Purdue is taking it to Wisconsin...they're probably my second-most hated team in the Big Ten. I love Big East basketball, it's always intense and my second favorite team is kicking ass (Pitt Panthers). I'd love to see Wake upset UNC but I think UNC is gonna be livid about that loss to BC...especially since BC just lost to Harvard. Even though I'm not a fan of USC, but I don't like UCLA and I hope they pull out the upset.

Someone please agree with me that Chris Kramer from Purdue is hot.

It is January 10, so Clemson must be unbeaten. I think this is a legit team, but let's see what that record is in a month. I think NC State is awful.

Is anyone else attracted to Maryland PG Greivis Vasquez? Not sure why, but I have a fascination with him.

I tried to hold out hope this season on NC State but yesterday exposed us, the team is indeed awful. I'm still not sure whether it's the lack of talent (last coach left the cupboard bare) or if Lowe is that bad of a coach. With a top 10 recruiting class coming next year we will find out.

Oh and no thanks on Vazquez lol but I do think Jonny Flynn is kinda cute, as is Chris Kramer (wasn't too familiar with him until I just googled him).

I wasn't familiar with Kramer until Eric's heads-up. Nice body!

I see Jonny Flynn at the mall every now and then. Another nice body and very cute smile, but he's shorter than I am. I am into taller guys.

Back on the court, Pitt pulled away from St John's, but it doesn't look like the Johnnies will be a pushover this year. With a Freshmen and 4 sophomores in their starting lineup, I'll bet they are really good next year.

I think Wake wins tonight because of home court and more talent than UNC. UNC has better chemistry, Wake more athletes. Should be a great game. Would be nice if it matched the 4 OT classic those teams played a few years ago.

Wake was able to beat Carolina, that made up for a crappy sports weekend for me!!! And yes I still remember that 4OT game a few years ago too.

Well I'm satisfied the Steelers won and so did Wake Forest. I'm watching the UCLA/USC game hoping USC wins...looks like it might go down to the wire.

See their team is WEEEEEAAAAAKKK, we're gonna win this game! Fight! Fight! RAH TEAM FIGHT! Victory for MSU!

I'm a little worked up about that game...it was way too much to handle watching on TV. The good news is that we're 4-0! GO STATE ..|

I see you all held on tonight, Sparty. Road wins are good to get. Sparty on, bitch!! ;)

Illinois up 9 on Michigan as I type.

Syracuse got crushed by Georgetown tonight. The Hoyas weren't missing early on, Syracuse couldn't hit the ocean, and Andy Rautins getting hurt didn't help matters. Preliminary diagnosis is a bruised knee for Andy, and they're saying he could have played in the second half if the game were close.

Florida and Auburn each went through stretches of awful basketball, and the Gators won by 3. If Auburn had shot well from outside, they might have won the game.

Wake up 20 at BC at the half. Wake has never beaten Boston College? Dan Bonner said that at the beginning of the broadcast. I find that hard to believe.

Duke beat Georgia Tech tonight. The highlight of the night for GT is that ESPN's #2 rated high school prospect verbally committed to GT tonight over NCSU and UGA. Paul Hewitt has 5 top 50 high schoolers committed to the Yellow Jackets for next year. WOW!!

Most intense game I've been to yet. Perfect 5-0, Go Green!

Here's an old video to celebrate:

I'm glad to see Pitt is up 55-47 on Louisville and I was happy to see UCLA lost to ASU.

A lot of big games in hoops today.

Syracuse got the day started by blowing out ND. If anyone doesn't notice that ND is a 2-man team by now, they're blind. McAlarney and Gody do all the scoring and they wear down after 30-35 minutes of the game. If they don't find a third scorer soon, they'll be on the NCAA bubble. Syracuse is great when they are on, but they always take a stretch of the game off, which keeps inferior opponents around.

Pitt goes down to Louisville. If this game were in Pitt, they would have gotten the calls and likely win. Dejuan Blair was in foul trouble all night, and they still were in it till the end. Louisville living off home court wins. Let's see them on the road. Pitt gets Cuse at home on Big Monday. Hoping it's a dandy!

Anyone catch the Marquette-Providence game? Marquette came back from 14 down in the second half to win. A Providence player took an elbow to the eye, and when no foul was called, the player's brother walked onto the court to ask the ref why. It was very weird. Marquette 5-0 in the Big East.

Georgetown loses at Cameron Indoor today. No shame in that, except that it fuels these people who say the ACC is better than the Big East. Maybe at the top it is, but 1-12, no way. And yes, I realize the Big East has some horrible teams 13-16.

Wake Forest is the best team in the country right now. I finally believe we have a legit Clemson team, and Wake beats them by 10 in their place. Skip Prosser would be proud. FSU pulls it out in OT vs Maryland. I was beginning to think the Terps were a sleeper, but after 2 road games, they just look asleep. Georgia Tech loses another game where they were possibly the better team. Those fans just have to take what comes this year, because they should be real good next year.

Sparty hangs tough and comes back to beat Illinois. Breslin Center sounded like it was rocking for that one. Ohio State gets a big win tonight at Michigan.

The refs did all they could to ruin Oklahoma at Texas A&M. OU doesn't get much from Blake Griffin and still wins, a good sign for them. Texas and Kansas win easily on the road.

Florida and Kentucky look to be the clear top 2 in the SEC right now. UK gets UGA tomorrow. UF dominated the second half against Arkansas. The Hogs looked excellent in non-conf play, now 0-3 in the league. LSU demolished Ole Miss tonight. The West is wide open. Miss State beats Vandy tonight to go to 3-0 in the league.

Arizona is the most unorganized team I've seen. Same player that fouled UAB in a tie game earlier this year fouled a USC player in a tie game with 1.2 seconds to play. USC hits a FT and wins. UCLA goes down at Pauley in OT. They went through a 12 minute stretch where they scored 5 points, with zero field goals. Herb Sendek's crew deserves a lot of credit, because they were down 11 at one point in the second half.

I think we covered it all. One of you guys needs to start sending me dirty messages sometime, so I don't watch so much damn basketball. lol

UConn mens and womans. Women have a big game at the Dean Dome on Monday. Maya Moore is amazing.

My school but also college basketball as a whole and especially the women's game had a huge loss today in Kay Yow's death. She was a hall of fame coach but more importantly inspired so many people in her fight against cancer, her faith, and the role model she was to her players. She also helped build women's basketball to where it is today. It sucks that her and Jimmy Valvano were both taken from us by cancer.

On a happier note today was a very busy today in college hoops, the things that stood out the most to me were UConn snapping Notre Dame's 45 game home win streak and Duke crushing Maryland by 40 and probably putting themselves #1 in next week's poll.

Kay Yow fought bravely for 22 years. She is suffering no longer. And, because of her bringing awareness to the cause, hopefully less will suffer in the future.

A prediction for tonight: Notre Dame blows out Marquette. I'm not big on Notre Dame, but they need a big win soon, and Marquette is due for a loss. The fit is there tonight.

It's BEDLAM tonight! Oklahoma State is no slouch. Travis Ford's style is suiting the Pokes well. OU too big and Warren deadly from outside. High-scoring, Sooners win!

So! Who wants in the NCAA Tournament?

Georgetown loses to Cincinnati for the second time this year.
Syracuse gets killed on the road again, at Villanova. They travel to UConn on Wednesday.
Notre Dame gets throttled at UCLA.
Tennessee loses at Auburn.
Texas A&M gets knocked off at home to a suddenly hot Kansas State.
Davidson's at-large hopes take a hit with their loss to College of Charleston. They get to redeem themselves when Butler comes to town on Bracket Buster Saturday.
To a lesser extent, Siena maybe loses any at-large hope, losing at the buzzer at Rider.
Baylor blows a 9 point second half lead at Texas Tech.
UNLV goes down in OT at The Pit.

Cincinnati is playing its way into the tournament.
Missouri is a team nobody is talking about, but should be.
Florida State was down 19 in the second half at Clemson, and came back to win. The Noles look like they are finally going to get Leonard Hamilton back to the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State beats Minnesota, Arizona State wins at Oregon State, Memphis beats Gonzaga in Spokane, San Diego State keeps winning, and Cal beat Wazzu to all make cases for continued at-large consideration.

On Sunday
Purdue travels to Illinois in a key Big Ten battle (1pm ET CBS).
Wisconsin travels to Happy Valley in an even more important Big Ten bubble matchup (3pm ET BTN).
Boston College at Wake Forest in a key ACC matchup (4pm ET Raycom).
Washington looks to keep pace with UCLA atop the Pac-10, as they take on Stanford at Maples Pavillion (5:30pm ET FSN).

UConn is the college hoops capital of the universe. Love my Huskies. The only team to win a natty in the same season for men's and women's. Love me some AJ Price and Maya Moore. Gavin Edwards, Tiff Hayes, and Meghan Gardler (holy hottness) are up there too.

I don't want to jinx the ladies, but I think they are untouchable. They steamrolled #2 and #3 buy +20 points. They lost a starter to injury and haven't missed a beat. Hopefully Mongomery doesn't chuck them out of any games like she has in the past.

As for the men, they can make the Final 4 if Thabeet stops being so soft. He's a friggen giant and gets pushed around like there's no tomorrow. And he has NO offensive moves, it's just pathetic. And Stanley Robinson needs to get his shit together. He has all the tools but just doesn't seem to know how to use them game in and game out.

I don't know if UConn will get another a double title (I friggen hope so) but it seems a lot depends on how far the men can go in the tourney. I'm confident the ladies can get job done -- I just hope they can put a beat down on Pat Summitt and her 1,000 wins along the way.
