For People In College, Where Do You Go? Are You Out? And Do You Find People Are Open To You In Your College If You Are Out.
 
I go to a very conservative state school
No, I am not out.
People are trying to be accepting here towards the openly gay people here, but we have a long way to go.
 
I've been through college and grad school, and nope, I still ain't out!
 
I'm not young and I've been out of college more years than many of you have been born, but look for the gay and lesbian association . Many colleges now have gay groups. Ask you student activities officer.
 
hmm.. well the University School of Medicine that i attend does have an association set up for gay/lesbians however i'm not part of that but ive heard its very successfull....|
 
I completed my undergrad degree 2 years ago at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I was kind out to some people my Freshmen year, mostly out my Sophomore year and basically out to anyone who cared to know by my Junior year (and also the Chair of the LGBT group), and was the the second openly gay Co-President of the Student Government my Senor year. I would say I had a very good time in college, all of the faculty and staff that knew me personally were very supportive and open. I was a lot more involved because I was out I think, since I wasn't worried people would find out.

Anyway, that was my experience, but I know that it will be different for different people.
 
well, I'm pretty much completely out (as in some teachers even know I'm gay) in HIGH SCHOOL so I expect university this fall, it's definitely not gonna be a big issue. a lot of the people I'm meeting in my program already know I'm gay, so I figure everyone will know by the end of frosh week. xP

definitely plan on joining the GLBT group at my school.
 
I go to a pretty conservative private school, but I decided to completely come out in my Freshmen year. Most people are pretty accepting, but we are working hard to make a more accepting place for GLBT students. Next year I will be president of the school's Gay/Straight Alliance, and I'm pretty excited to try and make a difference at my school.
 
I go to U of Michigan. We had the first office for LGBT issues (the Office of LGBT Affairs). I go there to shoot the breeze, help out, keep up to date on events and to meet other LGBTs. On Fridays, one of the popular clubs downtown always has Gay Pride night, so I go there.

People are all generally receptive to the fact that I'm gay. I hardly ever receive anything near abuse, though you always have your stupid frat boys (though there are just as many cool ones) and like all campuses, we have social conservatives.
 
I'm a college grad, and now am in grad school. There are other gays and lesbians, but I haven't met that many. I'm in engineering, and it's a little harder to find them (though I have found one now, and we've got our eyes on each other...). I did join the GLBT organization here, and found that to be quite helpful in talking about it. Am I out? Well, not really. But I'm not in the closet either. When I think about what defines me, being gay is down on the list. I bring it up if it's relevant, but I don't see the need to advertise it to everyone I meet.
 
When I went to college, I wasn't out. That had more to do with me being clueless than scared, though. There were a couple gay guys in my dorms, and nobody had any issues with them. And that was back in the early 90s.

I'm nonchalant about my sexuality in other words, if you ask I'll tell you the truth. However, I do plan on attempting to get more involved with the GLBT student association which is dubbed "Gay/Straight Student Alliance" this fall. I hope I meet some people there. In addition, I have a friend that graduated last fall that is lesbian, and she is very supporting.
 
I am finishing up at stony brook university and although it is a very progressive place I never knew anyone well enough to come out.
 
i got a pretty conservative business school. Most people that know me, know that Im gay. I dont feel the need to flaunt how gay I am. However, it does make dating a bit more difficult.

Well put. I'm only out if someone asks, but that can make things harder (and not in the good way). I go to a private school in the city, and I think that people our age are more accepting. Statistics seem to back that up as well.
 
I got to Eastern Michigan University and the only people who have trouble with the fact that I'm gay are the people who don't know me. Even my brothers are 100% cool with it, even if they weren't when they first met me. It's interesting to see that people just kind of take to me.
 
I'm at U of T, but I'm not at all out, since I'm not out to anyone else. There's a pretty large LGBT presence on campus, so I wouldn't really be worried.
