Columbo is, in my mind, one of the top 5 characters ever created for television, and Peter Falk's portrayal of him is easily one of the top 5 character portrayals in television history.

No matter how many times I see an episode, it's magic.

Oh. One more thing. I miss Peter.

i loved the shows... 99% of the time. it was one of the few shows that my dad and i really watched together. sadly they don't show any reruns around my area. i could dnload them, but it's not the same as the randomness of t.v.

I'm listening to an episode right now!!! ( I know them so well I don't need to watch)

My dad and I used to watch this show together. Now, they are both gone.

One classic TV shows as we find out did the crime in the end.

Columbo was part of the NBC Mystery Theater and the only one to be truly successful after the 'Theater' was cancelled. It almost didn't even go on the air. The network was convinced that nobody would watch a show where the murderer is identified at the beginning. How wrong they were.

I doubt if it would have been successful if Bing Crosby (their first choice to play Columbo) had accepted the role.

A note about Columbo's coat. Peter actually created the character and wore his own clothes. He decided the trench coat would be a nice touch. However, after filming a few shows in 100 degree California weather, Peter thought, "What in hell was I thinking?" By then, it was too late. The coast was as much a part of him as was that old Peugeot of his.
