I'll likely get flak, but where I live in Alaska, the nearest town is 47 miles away and Trooper response is in the neighborhood of about 2 hours if quickly done. Not that much happens around here, but there have been a few incidences and a weapon prevented innocent people from being harmed. That could have very well have happened with this guy had he done that to us at our home. State of Alaska allows for concealed carry and now also allows for people not having to back down unless cornered or having their homes broken into and finally forced into their bedroom (last area of safe resort). Now if confounded on your property, you have the right to defend yourself by what means you feel is appropriate, albeit there has to be a threat, but it need not be proven to be a "in fear for my life" threat.

Good, bad or indifferent, I am happy to be allowed this form of self defense and I know from my past, I will not hesitate to use it. Everyone should feel safe in their homes. Granted this guy was drunk or high, but some terrible nasty things get started that way.

I would have messed myself up pretty bad if someone had broken our bathroom window while we we "messing around" in there!!
