Comics!

way back, when weir and de filippis were writing 'new mutants', they also had a suicide storyline cancelled on relatively short notice. and that was during marvels 'experiemntal' phase, when they were publishing crazy stuff like x-statix. is it possible that marvel have never released a suicide-story? i cant recall they ever have. then again, my knowledge is rather limited.

^ i did not know that. i somehow thought it would have been wither who would have commited suicide, and thought that was the reason why the writers didnt seem to know what to do with him, because he was supposed to die early on.

as much as the clearly homophobic backstage drama sucks, its nice to have both anole and hellion where they are today. they are two of the best x-student characters.

Wing commited suicide. Also Jean but I see how that might be different.

youre right! totally forgot about wing. funny how that wasnt censored, as it not only involved suicide, but also was one of the more obvious gay metaphors ("your parents sound so relieved...")

So has anyone else heard/read about the "catastrophe" that is Superman renouncing his U.S. citizenship in Action Comics #900?

And I had no idea DC may lose copyright of Superman in 2010. I'm not sure what that means for those of you who actually read and follow Superman.

It's about time too Superman, Captain America went against the US in Cival War as he thought something was morally wrong about time Superman did.

That's what I was thinking too. But people have gotten through their head that Superman's creators are trying to "belittle" the US.

And that 2010 should be 2013. Whoopsy.

Cap fought against an unjust policy. Superman is being a big baby. I hope Batman slaps the shit out of him.

No, I thought Superman was dropping his US citizenship because as the most powerful man on Earth, his actions were being interpreted as American-sanctioned actions. Rather than jeopardizing the US through his own autonomy, and regardless of the fact that they do not reflect the intentions of the US, he decides to give up his citizenship, so that his actions cannot be interpreted as the political actions of one state against another.

That way, he can intervene in a delicate political situation and not be worried that opposing sides will view this as American intervention if the US has decided not to take a particular stance. Likewise, no one will continue to view America as "owning" the game-changing global weapon.

It makes sense, and it allows Superman to be an agent of global concern (which he's been for a while now).

It's also not new. That was part of the premise of The Watchmen. Dr. Manhattan filled the opposite role of Superman. He served as an agent of the US and was therefore interpreted as a symbol of America's continued upper hand in all political, scientific, and military discourse.

I love reading and have grown up with my parents collection of bugs bunny/sylvester/richie rich/duck tales blah blah when they used to cost 2c a comic, which I would assume are worth quite a bit now, but are all worn out from use :P

I'd love to get back into comics, but I'm not really into alot of the mainstream stuff, is there anything you lot would reccomend? If I had to go mainstream there is a few I would obviously accept like the Punisher :D

I think Superman belongs to the world not one country. His earliest incarnation as a force fro Truth Justice and The American Way was a statement during war in a different time. If it really allows him to help other countries better I'm all for the change.

Can someone please help me understand this? I don't recognize the meme. ;-(

It's the face you make when you're just going along with something to please somebody. Like if you said "I want to sleep in today and do nothing" and someone else said "you can't do that, we have to visit my mothers!" and you say "okay"
