Coming out to friend that opposes gay rights

He just contacted me about wanted to get together for my birthday later this month and I told him I was gay and an atheist. I asked him if we could still be friends and he said I was his best friend no matter what. :-)

He might try to convert you (both to Christianity, and to "giving up homosexuality"). Just be careful. IJS.
 
Yeah that it what I was afraid of in the first place. If he suggests I try to change and can't get over me being gay I will cut off the friendship.
 
^ I'm glad you told him! Hopefully things will continue to go well with your friendship with him. If anything, the atheism will probably bother him more than the gay part lol
 
I came out to an evangelical friend of mine from high school. He was deeply disturbed and we spent the next two hours with him trying to "save" me. Sadly, I wasn't willing to either be saved or make a big drama out of it.

In the end, I don't have friends who oppose gay rights. If you know what I mean.

Same here. I won't be friends with someone who feels it's there right to vote on mine.
