Like a bolt from the blue, I had a weird thought today: What are common animal names in foreign countries?

In the United States, for a long time, Rover and Kitty used to be common names for dogs and cats, respectively. They were so common that they’ve become a cliché and almost never used now.

So, what are common animal names now? I am especially interested in what they are in foreign countries.

my dog's name is Bear. Apparently that's a popular name though I had no idea when we got him.

Well I just finished up working in a Vet Practice in Aus this week, but I can tell you on the computer you are able to search profiles by pet name and it gives you all matches, I find the most common names to be Colours - especially Red, or Sox. Some people tend to name their animals after drinks, especially cats, and I found there was a surprising number of people who just called there dog "Dog", and I do believe there was also 3 cats called Dog aswell! Go figure....... pet owners are crazy ;)

My cats name is Lolly , i have no idea where i thought of the name though lol

My dogs name is Pheobe. She's awesome.

My friend's dog's name is Wishbone, which is the best name for a boy doggy. Wishy for short.. PERFECT name. lol

in australia some people just call their cat kitty, or puss puss, or pussy cat.

For dogs: Rex, blue or bluey (refering to the breed which is Blue Cattle Dog),
and Phoebe is a fairly common dog name, i've seen more dogs with that name than humans.

My dog's name is unusual, Millie.

Pet names I remember from throughout my family history:

Budgerigar (see above posting)...Buddy
Cat...Mittens, Penny
Dog: Tippy, Junior, Peppy, Rex (the coolest dog ever), Julius, Caesar

A few weeks ago, Jay Leno's HEADLINES had a story where the police came to somebody's house because of suspicious behavior. It seems that this woman's cat had "gotten out" and it wasn't supposed to be outside, so she was outside calling for her cat. A neighbor thus heard her shouting "Help! Help! Help!" and called the cops...

My cat's nickname is Super-Fluff, she leaves quite a lot of it about. I vacuum at least twice a week.
