Commonwealth Games a 'No Go'?

whoa whoa whoa. did he not say in the last sentence that "a similar approach is being implemented for the 2012 london olympic games" or something like that?

i wasn't aware london had a huge problem with wild monkeys.

London was mentioned, but listen to it again.

Isn't the opening ceremony supposed to be later today? I can't even find it in my listings

Can't wait for the games to start!

I think its an English ploy to make sure that no matter what goes wrong in 2012 they can at least say "Well at least ti isn't as bad as the commonwealth games in India." Long as we don't do the worse its a win in our book ;)

I'm rather pissed to discover that CBC TV will be broadcasting only 2 x 1 hour updates per day at 3 PM and 12 midnight.

There will be live streaming at CBC.ca and on Bold TV (which is digital and I don't have digital television). It's not even being broadcast on TSN that I can find.

Shame, shame on CBC. I'm deeply disappointed.

I look forward to the Commonwealth Games as much as I do the Olympic Games.

Me too. On a scale of 0 to 100 I look forward to them both at about 0, maybe a little below.

The preparations in Delhi seem to have been a shambles and one can only hope that the stadia and whatever else manage to stay standing for the next few weeks.

The UK teams, especially England, were reluctant to boycott the games for one very obvious reason, namely the 2012 London Olympics. They didn't want to provoke a series of retaliatory boycotts as were seen at the 1984 Los Angeles games in reprisal for Moscow in 1980.

Just finished watching it.

They did one thing right and on time: the opening ceremony was beautifully done. Lots of color, lots of dancing. The dancing with the seasons segment and the Gandhi tribute was lovely.

The resounding cheer by the Indian spectators when the Pakistan team came out caught me off guard. India cheering for Pakistan. That moment truly captured the purpose of the Commonwealth games.

And I swear the Delhi audience boo-ed the Games committee leader when he delivered his speech or whenever he was mentioned in other speeches. Deserved it. Haha

Anyway, let the games begin. Go Team Singapore!

Suresh Kalmadi, the Chair does deserve a solid kick in the pants:grrr:. Yes, there are some pretty ugly streaks in the organizing committee and his boorishness and incompetence defintely takes the cake. How he handled it all is unforgivable. For ANYONE's standards and from anyone's point of view.

But I thought I'd share a couple pictures of the Games Village - that seem to have had less media attention than they deserve. And if BBC has shown you the worst, hopefully Field Hockey Canada's facebook posts might convince you its not nearly as bad. Overall, that is.....

On with the Games :D

Here's a little clip for others, like me, who may not have much access to the proceedings. Looks great.

I had to laugh at one of the male dancers. They showed a number of shirtless men, all with hairless chests, and each one had shaved pits. I wondered if they had shaved their chests until I saw one guy with more hair on his chest than he had on his head.

But he had shaved pits, too!

^ Yup, many Indian males shave their pits.
Deos are largely unheard of here - and that's their way of not trapping in the smelly bacteria....:D

Oh, I didn't know that. So it wasn't just for the dancing? Very interesting, and another day goes by in which I learn something I didn't know before.

PS I hope I come across as objective and not just desperate to save an Image...

Well, the opening ceremonies certainly took a chunk out of the bad press. It was quite a show even though I didn't get to see any of it until the end of the athletes' parade. (I turned it on during Wales' march.

I'm not going to enjoy watching a full day's events crammed into 1 single hour. CBC has never done anything like this before and I'm not amused. I'll be looking for a forum at their website to voice my displeasure.
