Why do they HAVE to do it? I don't see it as discrimination at all. They're a private company that only wanted to match straight people--I wouldn't want to work with a company that didn't want to work with me. That would be like making gay.com take straight people onto their dating site. Now if for whatever crazy reason the government ran a dating service, then I could see the valid argument.

I posted a thread about this, back when it was settled. The company settled on the lawsuit before it went to court (out of court). They were afraid, they would lose in court.

lol .. when you enter i'm a m seeking a w they redirect your to eHarmony.
discrimination!

No, it's a good thing. This is an evangelical dating site that used to be for hets only. It's true that they "integrated" only under court order, but if you read further in the article, it really does sound like it's a learning experience for them.

Even [EHarmony founder] Warren is finding out that gay couples might not be so different after all. He and his wife are friends with a male couple they met in Maine, where they live most of the year.

"I asked them, 'Are you guys committed?' " Warren said, "and one said yes and the other said, 'I think so.'

"And the first one said, 'You'd better be!' "

This is exactly what we want to happen -- for people who were intolerant of LGBT relationships to take the first step toward recognizing them as legitimate.

It's true that they're off to a bit of a rocky start. There's a disclaimer on their home page that says:

The Company's patented Compatibility Matching System was developed on the basis of research involving married heterosexual couples. The Company has not conducted similar research on same-sex relationships.

Hmm. But I think we should give them a chance. Monitor them, yes, but not boycott or (God forbid) crash anything.

I say nobody should be forced to accept us.

The gay community is just fine finding dates without having to go to Focus on the Family for help. We're able to do everything on our own... we don't need straight people.

Wow.. you can feel the homophobia dripping off that.

The only people smiling are the ones alone. Any couples together are shown from the back just holding hands and standing far apart.

it's even more generic than the name might suggest. It's designed to lose money so they can appeal the ruling.

Yeah, why doesn't everybody just move to West Hollywood, then they would never need to even meet a straight person.

Of course, that strategy might prove to be ineffective in case you ever wanted California to pass a gay marriage law, which I'm sure you're not interested in. Isn't it just easier to say "screw them"?

In the meantime, I'm happy whenever homophobes make an effort, however clumsy or forced, to accomodate gay relationships into their worldview. Better late than never.

Bullshit. They're just hurting from our current economic crisis like every other company.

Or we can look on the bright side and hail them for finally accepting us. Yes, lets throw our money at them so they can find us a "partner" and then use that money to make sure we can never officially get married in the eyes of the law.

I don't have a problem with it at all. On the contrary. I think a "dating" site that is to help you find a legit date is a great idea. Most of the sites that are set up right now are for hook ups. Occasionally you will see someone that is looking for a date/relationship but not very often. Most of those guys make it perfectly clear they are not looking for sex but seem to get a lot of hook up replies. It can be very frustrating. This sounds like a step in the right direction to me.

I don't understand why I would want to join a dating site that is the exact opposite of what I'm looking for. Straight men/women don't want to date someone that is gay and gay's don't want to date straights.

I kind of see your point but I don't look at it as discriminating at all. Now if they don't offer the same services, charge more or apply some kind of limit or treat "us" differently thats different. Until then, I think it's going to be helpful.

You.. do know, don't you?

THey're not making an effort.. they went to court to NOT have to do this. They fought tooth and nail to not have to do this.

They would have preferred to do just about anything but. They were ordered by the court to make a gay dating site.

We don't need them.
