  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Compliments - can you deal with them?

It depends who says it when, how and for what reason.

Usually I laugh at em either sayin "I know", "Thank you", or "really??"

I do not like over compliments as they seem exaggerated.

But I take the compliments that comes from the heart. Those are the real ones ;)

I say thank you, but then deep down inside I laugh because I know they are just saying it to be nice.

One of the few negative traits I picked up from my father is a complete inability to accept a compliment. Nothing makes me feel more ill at ease than hearing someone say they like my work, or appreciate what I do. It took me a few years to train Pubert to say things like "About fucking time you wore something decent" instead of "You look really nice", but I finally did it. :)

^ this sounds pretty Austrian. I kinda say stuff like that, too. Problem is that people will go "what? do you hate my other clothes?" "No .. just saying I like that one more" ;)

I used to take compliments to mean "you're a big fat loser" but these days my self esteem is higher and I hear "You're not as much of a royal douche than you used to be". I guess that's what you call progress.
