How does a private military contractor equate to less manpower in a time of shortage?

Private military contractors will not equate to boosting manpower. I envision them doing second line task while the military can focus on combat tasks.

I have a question and I really don;t know this... do men still have to register for the draft at 18. I did in the eighties even though there was no draft. It was to make sure that if we were invaded, the army would know how to find us.

Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service. It's important to know that even though he is registered, a man will not automatically be inducted into the military. In a crisis requiring a draft, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.

As an alternative method of encouraging registration, federal legislators passed laws requiring that to receive financial aid, federal grants and loans, certain government benefits, eligibility for most federal employment, and (if the person is an immigrant) eligibility for citizenship, a young man had to be registered (or had to have been registered, if they are over 26 but were required to register between 18 and 26) with Selective Service. Those who were required to register, but failed to do so before they turn 26, are no longer allowed to register, and thus may be permanently barred from federal jobs and other benefits, unless they can show to the Selective Service that their failure was not knowing and willful.[4] While there is a procedure to provide an "information letter" by the SSS[23] for those in these situations, like for example recent citizens who entered the US after their 26th birthday, the "turnaround time for such letter from Selective Service is approximately 135 days" as indicated in their website, an additional burden, not required of other applicants, that could result in a form of employment discrimination.

Most states, as well as the District of Columbia, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and Virgin Islands, have passed laws requiring registration in order for men 18–25 to be eligible for programs that vary on a per-jurisdiction basis but typically include driver's licenses, state-funded higher education benefits, and state government jobs.[24] Alaska also requires registration in order to receive an Alaska Permanent Fund dividend.[24] Eight states (Connecticut, Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming) have no such requirements, though Indiana does give men 18–25 the option of registering with Selective Service when obtaining a drivers license or an identification card.[24]

well that means that just funding the draft board is part of that legislation and does not mean that the gov;t is going to be drafting.

The problem is that Jones enthusiastically jumps in with people such as Beck, with no critical questions, only agreement to the hysteria. When no critical thinking is displayed in such a context, the immediate conclusion is that the two are in agreement.

Right there is one reason the country needs an alternative to military service. Anyone who wants to serve ought to be provided a way to do so.

perhaps like raising the taxes across the board with each war spending bill that is legislated? it's what put the USA in the game in WW2 and it was the driving force to end wars quickly.

Everyone paid every extra penny they had in taxes. The rich paid 90 percent.

Now warfare can be waged from afar, with no great harm to the population and the fiscal responsibility gets passed onto the coming generations.
