I am trying to show my mom how to use a computer. Are there any documents that shows a person how to use internet explorer (that is her favorite browser she used at work so she thinks it is the most dependable) or Firefox. My family is getting extremely frustrated in explaining how to use the computer. She thinks that everyone should use a computer the same exact way. She hates it when a person tells her a different way of doing something. I need something to the tune of the following: that holds her hand in using the computer. She has had aol dial up internet the last 15 years and finally graduated to high speed internet. She is also those impatient ones that clicks 20 things in 5 seconds if something does not pop fast. If this fails I will have to get a book called windows XP for beginners then i will be on the dog house with my mom. I do realize older people can be scared by technology. ](*,) ](*,) :help: #-o

I can try that. The key is to do it in way she does not feel insulted. The question is really does she have a drive to actually learn it.

People like that should not get a computer.

Especially with Windows and Internet Explorer, they will download any virus or Spy-/Malware and generally fuck up the whole system, like deleting important files.

How about those video professors things I see on TV all the time?

^^ I wouldn't know.

But has anyone actually tried the product?

^ I can't say I've tried it, but there are a LOT of complaints floating around about that company.

If you start to enter "video professor" into Google the first auto-complete suggestion you get after "video professor" itself is "video professor scam".

I'd be inclined to avoid it.

Stupid Windows! Why does it force you to reboot even when you tell it you don't want to?

I was editing the above post when it rebooted on me. By the time I could get back to the site, the time to edit had expired.

Would it be so terrible to wait until I'm ready?

[I'm stuck on a friend's computer today (Win XP).]

What are you doing, Dave?

This is what I told my parents.

"I'll teach you anything you want to ever know about computers if I know it, but in turn you'll be willing to listen and try what I tell you. If you argue with me or don't listen to what I'm telling you and then complain, your computer problems are your own and I'll teach you when you're ready to learn."

It's kind of harsh but it works.

When I got my computer I couldn't find anyone round me who knew anything much about them at all, so in reality I just had to learn it all myself.
So the best thing that I bought was "Teach Yourself Office (or whatever) VISUALLY."
Found the Visuals easy and helpful

Can you believe that my Grandparents still use Web TV. I can't believe MSN still supports it.
