This may have been discussed already, but did not see it on first page here. When opening a Windows site today I had a Windows note recommending I install Drive Cleaner to clean up adult sites visited. Have any of you heard of this and would you recommend or not. I normally go to tools tab under internet explorer and hit options and delete cookies and file search history often. When I installed Drive Cleaner, but did not pay to have files cleaned, they detected numerous files that had been "compromised" (little embarrassing to say how many). I am not going to purchase or go any further with this program until I get some advise. Anyway, would appreciate your comments.

lol Noelie. :-)

When you say Windows note do you mean a little message popup in the bottom right? If so then it sounds like you may have some spyware or something.

DriveCleaner is a misleading application, which gives exaggerated reports of security and privacy risks on a computer. The program then prompts the user to purchase a registered version of the software in order to remove the reported risks.

When I'm on, er, adult sites I use a nice little feature called "Private Browsing" in Safari where everything is automatically deleted when you close it.

The moment I saw the beginning of your post I thought " Oh God no, don't do it, run." I was hoping Noelie would get there first to save me having to try and justify myself. Fortunately he did. If anything ever pops up and tells you you might be infected and offers you a free on line check or cure, assume they are hiv positive and want to come inside you without protection having made sure you have bleeding hemorrhoids. I know it sounds alarmist but really don't even think about it.

I appreciate your comments and thought you were correct, but could not believe I got pop up window on bottom right of screen. Will reinstall Webroot Spysweeper soon, but wanted your thoughts on this software too. I had it, but it took lots of time and slowed computer down and uninstalled it.

Noelie,

Thanks for your help and advise. I have downloaded Spybot and it is working great. Picked up a number of culprits!! Again thanks for your help.

:D

Whew!!
Thanks, sometimes I say things without thinking. You'd think I could read the post before I hit send and see if it is ok.
You ought to see the trouble I can get into in public.!!(*8*)

Yeah, ok. Um. er, oh.....Nope!!
The Native American in me has nothing to hide and would relate something.
But the Irish in says "No Way!!"
better luck next time.

Something interesting happened this am.
I run Firefox and Noelie convinced me to use AVG and I am real happy with both FF and AVG.
I used FF to go to my hotmail inbox and it brought up the hotmail page to log in. Then a popup msg came up saying it appeared to be a fake hotmail webpage and someone was wanting my personal information like password etc, and for me to use their AV system to run a scan. and with what noelie and trawler69 went thru at the beginning of this thread, I didn't have a heart to make them go thru it again. Of course I didn't run it. But it LOOKED it might be AVG asking me to do this. I realized it was a similar thing that wareagleboy went thru.
You have to be very careful of popups.
Thanks noelie for keeping us on our toes.

Well I've been corrected. My lover says I have Avast not AVG . I thought they were the same. He's my tech support when you are not around, altho you know more. lol
I have WINRAR already. would I still do the same?
When you told me about AVG and Avast we found Avast worked fine for us. I think I had already downloaded Avast when you told us about AVG. Anyway.

I was looking at WINRAR this am and when I highlighted the contents of the file, Avast found a trojan in it. I deleted it.

Also on that other thing I thot I had AVI
I ran SpywareBlaster this am and it cleaned up a lot of crap.
Hope that was good enough.
