"There is no real need for anybody born after 1990 to watch the original Star Wars movies." - me

Whenever I see a guy (yes, it is different with girls, they are irritating and at the same time pathetic shopping mules anyway) with a Massimo Dutti shopping bag, I feel like slapping him in the face... while wearing trousers and a turtleneck from MD myself

Pretty much. It was very formative to me, but I can't imagine it would be anything more than a pleasant diversion to any 20-something in the year 2014 who has regularly attended movies.

Don't be so sure...

Would you say that seeing the Episodes IV-VI were somehow necessary to see Episodes I-III? I certainly never thought so. They might give a viewer a vague sense of where things are headed, and there are certain in-jokes that might be enjoyed with a fuller knowledge of the first three films, but it's not like you needed a scorecard to follow along.

I know that there are some pretty hard core Star Wars fan(atic)s out there... I was one of them back when the original 3 were "new". Movies, cards, comics, posters, cartoons, action figures... I had to have/see them ALL. It was like a drug you couldn't get enough of.

Oh, so was I. But the thing was - I was seven years old when the first movie came out. It was the first movie that utterly blew me away, and that I got obsessed with. At which point I wanted the trading cards and T-shirts and who knows what else. When a twenty-something tells me he's never seen it, I can't imagine the movie having that same impact. He's presumably already seen a movie that blew his mind, and if he hasn't, I doubt this would be the one to do it.

Poor you: your life must have been and felt SOOO empty back then... I wonder what trash you used afterwards to replace all that

You masturbated to Spock?!

Technically, Spock is Star TREK, not Star WARS... but if you must know (again), I'm pretty sure I probably did jerk off to Luke and Han Solo from Star Wars, AND Kirk and Spock from Star Trek.

I was a pretty rabid horny teen. I probably jerked off to Chewbacca too.

Oh, I confess I found it weird that you were talking of the original movies instead of the original series... even when it's all The Same Shit to me, I confess my error
