is that magnitude 4/5 I read. Maybe you can go for Archernar from Eridanus- since it's shining during Pisces birthday too ^^ <-- that I dont have to explain, I bet you know.

It's the brightest star in Pisces right next to the head of Cetus, and still I have never seen it from my house in the suburbs.

Is Maryland quite south? From what I read- that star is quite south/ from southern constellation. Oh well, enjoy that star ..|

I don't know if it's surprising or anything but I took up rugby recently. Loving it; it's a really great stress reliever for me.

If your avatar pic is you in the rugby scrum I can understand the "stress relieving" part...

Acherner is impossible to see from here. Way too far below the horizon. I am at latitude 39. You would have to be at latitude 33 to see it. Maybe Florida, and then only at its zenith for a few minutes in November.

Not sure anyone on here would care, but people i've been close to in real life would.. I dont give a poopy about religon anymore. :D yay i said it. go meee :gogirl:

I must remember this, Alnitak.

Indeed

The whole deep sky field around Alnitak and HIP 26816

The Horsehead Nebula was the pic on the front cover of one of my first (and favourite) astronomy books, like when I was 9 or 10. I had a strong interest from a young age. ..|

Oh and you've no idea how more fortuitous Americans are latitude-wise - I mean you live fairly north in the U.S. and yet you're still a full 12 degrees better off than me - and I'm on the far SOUTH of Britain. It's at 51 here and back at my family home it was at 58. It becomes impossible to see most things from a walled back garden because you have no clear view south to the horizon - and don't even get me started on the intemperate weather and almost perpetual cloud cover. (astronomical rant over)

Ive been Vegetarian for 3 years...

but most people dont know that I still eat Crab Rangoon whenever I get Chinese food.

I just can't help myself.

It's also on the cover of the Backyard Astronomer's Guide - the best comprehensive guide I can recommend to anyone starting off.

True we can see the entire ecliptic and much of the -30 to -50 declination, including some of the brightest parts of the Milky way through Scorpius and Vela. However, our light pollution in the Northeast is just as bad or worse than parts of the UK. The deserts in New Mexico are probably the best seeing in the country, a good 5 hour flight from here.

Excuse my weak US-geography knowledge  In fact Maryland is quite North, it just few bar below Seattle. ^^
We are in the north often have boring sky-show; there always Cepheus,Andromeda,Cygnus, Cassiopea <-- always from my window  and Orion.

Sometimes I wanna scream to the sky: Change Wallpaper, already!! #-o

Everyone has Orion  It's the brightest constellation in the sky. Always visible unless you are in the core of downtown Manhattan. The belt also straddles the celestial equator enjoyed by all :)

The light show sky of modern civilization has nearly killed amateur astronomy, and soon star filled skies will be the stuff of legend.

However, Casseopeia and the Big Dipper are usually complete and many of the stars in Bootes, Leo, Cygnus and Auriga too. The great square of Pegasus is often the only part of that sky recognizable. The Summer Triangle with Vega, Altair, and Deneb is a good reference asterism. And of course the Great Oval with Capella, Procyon, Sirius, Rigel, Aldebran, etc.

Northern latitudes will always have the same sky determined by the compliment of your latitude. So everything above 51 declination is always visible. I suppose it's beneficial for people starting out so the sky doesn't change very much month to month down to pretty low declinations - more than half the sky for Canadians and Northern Europeans.

There is currently a thread on Facebook, with several participants and many responses, about my ass. I'm not sure if I'm flattered or weirded out.

I still don't understand what the hell everyone saw in that awful, boring Weekend movie.

Oh thank God. Everyone I know raves about it being brilliant and earth shattering and life affirming and life changing and I bought it - difficult to get Queer movies in Australia - and watched it and thought "what in hell is wrong with people. This movie is one of the most pretentious, boring, dribble-fests I've ever seen."

I watched it all the way through waiting for something to happen but it never did. Awful, just awful.

Add Shelter to the list as well.

Can't comment on Weekend; I haven't watched it. But I actually enjoyed Shelter. It was slow-paced in some areas but I thought the movie was a breath of fresh air as it's one of few gay-themed films that didn't end in tragedy or loneliness. Oh well, different strokes.

Shelter is a wonderful movie. I loved it. True happiness is so rare in queer cinema. I'm unashamedly a happy-ending, riding off into the sunset kind of guy.

What kind of comments is your ass getting?

The spectrum, from ew to awesome. I think only one commentator has seen my naked ass, so I'm guessing most responses are how they feel about seeing naked male 44-year-old buttocks in general. :)

This is starting to suggest you posted a pic of your ass on facebook, rather than that people abruptly decided to discuss your ass. ;)
