How come all those mutant races have human bodies except for some plastic growth on their forehead? So cheap!

Well... IMO, TREK was never meant to be high budget/special effects. It's a story telling medium about the trials and tribulations (no pun? ... you wouldn't get it anyway...) of human beings, human relationships, human emotions, human weaknesses... the make up is supposed to represent foreign thoughts and beliefs, while still being able to show the human emotion behind them.

To some degree, I liken them to the masks worn in ancient Greek plays.

The story is the important part, not painting the whole picture for you... your imagination is supposed to fill in the blanks.

Whatever it 'says' about them, it ultimately would be saying the same thing about you, just replace "roaches" or "bubblegum" instead of "pompous" and "stuffy."

You know what irony is? should it be some ready-made expression in English like "self-deprecation through feigned pompousness" be included in the linguistic competence of natives to be able to grasp it more easily?

Or should I also add to their statements the (apparently invisible) irony I put behind mine?

The sets were really like cardboard in the early days. And that's the same as Doctor Who where the sets were LUDICROUSLY cheap and unconvincing. I can understand the Brits having that self-deprecating Clement Atlee / Austerity / Stiff Upper Lip / Strength against Adversity attitude but not in Hollywood. Hollywood, La La Land and the USA think they're the oh-so-Cool Kings of the World.

I think it's time for me to go back to bed. (I haven't found out why Huntneo/GH had this spat and that other spat with Elvin)

Proving our point.

Dr. Who was the same way... story telling that makes you think. Let your imagination fill in the rest.

There is another actually.

Name him. :)

I think it's time for me to go back to bed. (I haven't found out why Huntneo/GH had this spat and that other spat with Elvin)

Why are you bringing elvin into this? This is about you and your little troll belamo.

But yes...please do go on to bed.

As usual...your attempts at diversion are lame.

Let's be frank. Americans don't know what irony is. Saul Bellow might.

No wonder you two get along so well. You're both full of bs.

Whenever you're getting bothered, you start the Americans this, Americans that...garbage.

Pull your face out of belamo's asscrack long enough to see that he's being laughed at.

I don't hide behind "irony". I tell bitches exactly what i think of them.

yeah...it's "invisible irony" when you get clowned. ;)

and kudos to the person who gave pat his little diversion tactic regarding my beef with elvin. You tried.

I have been doing it since 2005... maybe others are clowned when they are reminded how fool they are by taking themselves, thheir indignation too seriously and my posts too literally... some JUBbite once said that I was "an acquired taste"

You mean me? what?

"The problem isn't when I habitually refer to others as stupid, bubblegum-posting foolish roaches... it's their fault for feeling insulted.."

I've long maintained and still do that anyone with something worth saying in the first place doesn't need to hide it behind a maze of insults directed at everyone who doesn't already know what the point is before you've even clearly made it.

I never said such thing [-X even though I think most of us might well agree with that idea

What I said is that to me, probably way to naively, it is obvious that those expressions I use are OBVIOUSLY  clashing with any serious tone that might be attached... and if that was the case, the most natural, sensible reaction, again maybe too naively considered by me, is to laugh at it, not feel indignant about it.

"In any case I have long maintained and still do that anyone with something worth saying in the first place" needs to do it out of the message boards on the net... that is why I stopped posting all those lenghty posts that people would dismiss, not just because of grammar or for the TLDR, but simply because they think ideas, facts are simple either one's own beliefs or the others' beliefs and, of course, nobody who is not a sucker longing for a master and a guide to follow will consider anything that does not suit his own convictions as other than "rubbish" and "nonsense".

You have one of those. :-)

buzzer...I love how you have a way of making him scramble to explain himself to you.

Speaking of scrambled food, while apparently dealing with other people's messy cook, you cook and you eat and deal with your own messy scrambling
