I actually almost wish that all these athletes who were sucking cock in secret while they had lucrative contracts and now get applause for being out would just not bother.

Rather than sending the message that it is okay to be a pillow biter and still kick a ball, the real message they are sending is that young kids with hopes of a professional sports career should kept it quiet until the contracts run out and you have to retire before you try to grab another 15 minutes of fame by telling us all how conflicted you've been all these years.

This is what I've been saying for years. Of course everyone will cheer you. It's PC. But they will stab you in the back if/when they can. What happened to Michael Sam was the best example of this.

I have plenty of anecdotes about this back when I was a state cop. They cheered me for coming out because it was politically correct. But how I was treated afterward was completely different. For those who are naiive here, there are plenty of ways to discriminate against a person beside calling them faggot. This is why I've been saying for years that people like Phelps Klan should be the least of our problems. It's the closeted bigots that scare the hell out of me.
 
I disagree. It would have been more of a help to our cause had he come out earlier, but it is still a help.

Moreover, his career is his career. He owes you nothing.

Including his 'coming out' announcement. Save us from minor sports celebs facing down irrelevance who try to re-invent themselves by queering up.
 
Australia seems to have always been the land of hate. If not full on hate, at the least, resentment and sour grapes. Perhaps, to some degree, they have a right to their nasty temperaments.

I have no idea what this man has had to deal with to make it this far.

Acceptance of the gays isn't something that has been around, or going on, for a long time. Had he come out during his career, he would have been under a microscope from then on. Not something many are prepared for, or willing to do.

At least now, he and others like him can say "Look what a gay man can accomplish when given the chance. We're not so different and/or threatening after all."

Ireland is the land where they still seethe over Cromwell, blame others for their Potato blight, fornicate too frequently and sent the sprogs overseas, and are permanently unhappy unless they can hold a grudge, drink alcohol and fight someone/anyone.
