Thelast few months have not been nice for New York's politicians. First Spitzer, then Christine Quinn (for whom I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop), and now Fosella. With all of these disclosures coming about as quickly as they are, I am more inclined to be concerned about the ones we do not know about yet. It is obvious that New York's political world is a cesspool, and in my opinion, the only ones we haven't yet seen tearfully jerking out heartfelt apologies to their families and constituents for "errors in judgement" are merely the ones who have not yet been caught with their mano en la maza. It is extremely disheartening.

that's what scares me about politics. it seems there are disproportionately more corrupt politicians than not. and the more the media scrutinizes them, the more they learn ways to avoid getting caught.

I hate to sound more cynical than I have already sounded, but I honestly think that is the problem in the first place. These people watch the news just like everyone else. You would think that they would either stop doing what they are doing or find a bettr way to do it so that they would not get caught. But the unfortunate thing is that so many of them are still getting caught because they are still doing stupid things that allow them to get caught.

I honestly do not care what these people do in their private time. I think the majoity of them are thieves, philanderers, liars and drunks. What angers me is the fact that they seem to be spending more time wallowing in their cesspools of corruption, trying to find ways to make sure no one finds out about it, and/or woefully crying crocodile tears for the camera after they do get caught. We all know they are not sorry for what they have done, but mereley for having gotten caught. Spitzer would be on the phone with that whore making a date for tonight if he had not been busted.

The time these people dedicate to their thieving and fornicating should be dedicated to doing their jobs, and it infuriates me that the only time they are seen to be doing their jobs is when they have to vote on something which will affect one of their pet special interests, and in that case, I would rather have wished they had not shown up for the vote.

Are Americans so stupid that they cannot elect a responsible, decent, honest individual to a position of leadership in the community? Honestly, it just infuriates me sometimes...

Vito Fossella's admission that he fathered a love child exposed another of his lies: He had told his girlfriend he was separated from his wife, the Daily News learned Friday.

Retired Air Force Col. Laura Fay told those around her recently that the Staten Island congressman had split with his wife, Mary Pat, one source said.

I feel bad for his wife and kids.She gave up a very promising career as a business executive to stay home and raise a family.She did ALL the sacrificing in the marriage,which was said to long have incurred rocky stretches.He did whatever he damn pleased....without a thought of how his actions would affect anyone,or a care as he shamelessly lived a double family life.The only good thing is that his political career is dead in the water,though somehow I don't think in the near term our politiical leaders wil be turning into shining examples of great character....just they'll keep a lid on their indiscretions with a whole lot more calculating cynicism.

Personally I hope you are right, because I am so tired of hearing about it. Like you, I have no faith that it will ever stop, so I just don't want to know about it anymore. It is just too disheartening and makes the whole system look a shambles.

I don't see this guy as a follower of public opinion [a weak excuse] at all - I see him as the hopeful vanguard of new thinking in for Republicans in Congress, that it is possible to fuck around and not have it be with teen aged boys

Vito Fossella built a career as a staunch "family values" pol, polishing his image in his predominantly Catholic district with a string of anti-gay votes.

He even shuns his gay sister, Victoria Fossella, refusing to go to family events if she and her partner attend, a source close to the family said.
