I would like to know, not based in any way on your political party or feelings about them, if you HAD to place yourself on this scale, where would you put yourself?

Rigid Conservative
Conservative
Moderate conservative
Moderate progressive
Progressive
Rigid progressive

After you answer the poll please feel free to elaborate without using your party affiliation as a way of describing yourself ..|

remember

No party stuff. I want to see how and if people are capable of defining themselves politically without using the club you joined as the way to do it.

BP,I'd pick centrist but there's no corresponding choice for that.In between moderate conservative and moderate progressive, not comfortable with the more ideological in both wings at all.

Even though it has gradations, the scale is fundamentally based on just two poles and therefore does not correspond to political reality.

you only have two choices on purpose and you cant sit in the middle on purpose.

thanks guys...

I will restate the question so that you know you are in the "IF" territory....

if you HAD to place yourself on this scale, where would you put yourself?

No that's the trouble. There is no "middle" between only two answers in politics. It's like saying what's your favourite colour, Deep red, red, orangy-red, reddish-orange, yellow, or deep yellow.

Well, my answer is oregano.

And if you insist on a colour, my answer is blue.

It just doesn't fit in a scale like that either way.

thanks for attempting to play then. This thread must not be for you.

Perhaps in the future I will come up with something that requires less imagination on your part ;)

moderate conservative then,or a lefty righty.;)

I'm progressive.

If a staunch conservative looks at me they'll think I'm a radical communist socialist Obama lovin' liberal. If a rigid progressive looked at my they'd think I was too far right.

That's how far the peg has moved to the right.... the conservatives have become SO conservative that everyone that doesn't align with them appears to be a liberal leftist. It's not the Republican party of Eisenhower, Nixon or even Reagan anymore. It's morphed into something odd.

I'm a fiscal conservative (do not confuse this with the GOP 'fiscal conservatism') and a social liberal. I believe that people should have what they need in fair measure. I believe in constructive debt but that people should be able to pay their debts.

I believe that people should work for what they buy. I believe that every person should be fairly paid for their work.

I believe that we should be conserving resources for future generations.

I do not believe in war. But I do believe that when attacked or when the safety and liberty of others is at stake, war may be necessary.

I do not believe that every person should own a gun without it being licensed and registered. I'm more conservative than that.

I believe that we have a responsibility to each other and to our community and nations and to other nations to ensure that equal opportunity is available to all.

I believe that government is just the system for how we do things together, but it should not be owned by the rich and powerful.

I believe in conserving and enhancing human resources by ensuring that health care is a basic right and is kept affordable. I do not believe in extraordinary measures being undertaken without the direction of the patient. Sometimes people just have to come to grips with the idea that everyone dies.

I believe that every child should be entitled to a childhood and that child labour is one of the great evils of the world. See http://www.freethechildren.com/

I believe that every person should have access to an education.

I believe that religion has no place in the modern world of statecraft. After 4500 years, I think we can see by now that this approach sucks.

I prefer evolution to revolution but revolution when evolution doesn't work.

I believe that in the end, all is dust.

And there you have it. Conservative. Moderate.

I don't believe we should be ruled by bankers and markets. They make a mockery of democracy.

Rigid conservative has 0 votes. Where's pixel? I know we're at least one down there.

I picked progressive. I haven't been terribly self-conscious of where I fall on the scale. But I've gone through an attitude change; one that recognizes we need progressive policies because we're too far to the right. And I find D.C. right-wing because the corporate masters don't feel progressive policies—social, economical, political (combination thereof)—is advantageous. The corporatism mentality is to not give a shit about the nature of the platforms of both major parties; they just support the one likely to produce a coming election's victory; and the requirement is that the winning party's candidate, when in office, will not being a threat to corporate interests.

Jesus! What changed your mind?

I put moderate conservative, but I'd actually be somewhere in between the two moderates. I'm conservative fiscally, but not so much for anything else.

I support a woman's right to choose (no late-term abortions however), equal rights, etc.. I also support responsible spending and taxation (NOTE: that 'responsible' also includes tax increases if that's what is necessary), smaller government, and reduced government presence in certain areas. There is much crossover for me between the different sides, so it would take a long while to list out all of my positions. (I'll spare you that 'treat')

Some folk have said that they can't categorize themselves because they aren't provided with a second pole. That is probably true, and we've had all those little internet tests to place us one the grid. Still, it's sometimes interesting (or at least fun) to to find out how people see themselves in such short, quick expressions--I am conservative or whatever.

I described myself here as progressive. I prefer 'liberal,' but that scares a lot of people for some reason (or maybe for no reason).

The far right has been pretty successful at branding liberal a dirty word in American politics.

Moderate conservative/progressive

Fiscally conservative With exceptions
Socially liberal with less exceptions

So if I had to pick one .......... moderate progressive

As for what I believe .......... U already know that
