Conservatives boycott Wal-Mart over gay issue

I think I'll shop at wal-mart this weekend.

I really don't know what to say anymore. When I read this, I ask why. I get angry. I drink. Then the dog gets angry.

It's a viscous cycle.

this has my head spinning. I don't shop at wal-mart because I do not like their stuff but I don't want the Christian extremists to win.

Hurrah! It's good to hear some positive news about Wal-Mart!

Why are "Christians" so afraid of gay people? I just don't get it.

Come off it, you can't have gay's having equality in the workplace. Pfft!

LOL!. i agree man. oh well. Like someone else mentioned in this thread it is just giving those few Christians that do this, 'bad attention'.

Christians are creating their own demise with this exclusionary stance.

The more they spout "bans, boycotts and hatred" toward their fellow citizens, the more isolated and disliked they become.

This activity also just raises public awareness, and not usually in their favor.

Well said ... and the far extreme one's ... like Phelps picketing soldiers funerals because the U.S. isn't anti-gay enough ... really make the whole religion look stupid. They better wake up ... because the younger generations won't keep going to church and tithing if the churches don't change their messages of hate to so many groups of people.

The corporate actions that triggered the protests were little different from those taken by scores of major companies in recent years — Wal-Mart paid $25,000 this summer to become a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and donated $60,000 to Out and Equal, which promotes gay-rights advances in the workplace.

Conservative leaders viewed these actions as a betrayal of Wal-Mart's traditions, which have included efforts to weed out magazines with racy covers and CDs with explicit lyrics.

Oh for fuck's sake. I mean, seriously, you gotta be kidding me?

This is just another example of how people automatically associate being gay with nothing but SEX SEX SEX.

If a straight guy says, "Hey, found me a new girlfriend," then people say, "Oh that's great! Are you getting married soon?"

If a gay guy says, "Hey, found me a new boyfriend," then people say, "Oh, so you like sucking cock and taking it up the ass, do ya?"

:soapbox:

This isn't going to hurt Wal-Mart in the least. I mean, where else are all the other middle-class conservative families going to shop?

I also find it kind of funny that down in the south, at least in the area I live in. Nobody pays attention to any of this stuff. I mean, yes, they could be a little less homophobic. But aside from that, they don't go out of their way to discriminate or boycott business that support gay rights and such. They just don't care. There are a few exceptions. But hey.

Anyway, Wal-Mart's great!

I hope they don't cave. They certainly are big enough to withstand the pressure.

And its not in their best interest to be controlled by any one group either.

They're sticking by their diversity cause, so that's good. But this isn't over yet. I just don't know what is with the far right...

^^^^
They surely could afford to pass out tranquilizers at the entrance, don't you think??
