The conservative group Judicial Watch today filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C. in an attempt to force the administration to release a death photo of Osama bin Laden. The group has specifically requested a photo of bin Laden laying on the floor of the room in which he was killed.
Judicial Watch claims it has been "irreparably harmed" by the administration's refusal to release the photo(s), the withholding of which they claim to be illegal under the Freedom of Information Act.
The president told CBS News that his administration has no plans to release any of Osama bin Laden's death photos. "We don't trot this stuff out as trophies," he said. "We don't need to spike the football."
Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) says he has seen 15 of the photos, which he describes as "pretty gruesome." Inhofe described "brains hanging out of bin Laden's eye socket" and a bullet hole through an ear.
Sarah Palin has also called for the release of the photos, claiming such a display would serve "as a warning to others seeking America's destruction."
