Inspired by the Alex Jones thread and the article linked in that thread, I began to wonder what Conspiracy Theorists, who build their beliefs on supposition, might think about Flat Earthers. I mean, do they ever think, "How can you look at cold, hard facts and still believe the Earth is flat?" Or do they think that a 'round Earth' is just another conspiracy theory?

Any thoughts?

I'm not even sure why it is so important to them to believe in a flat earth.

Or their individual or groupthink obsession with it.

I know that a lot of them are being played for idiots by people like Jones who know that they can literally cash in by pumping false science and conspiracy theories.

I'd say they're similar to many bible thumpers. They pick and choose whichever theory/belief best suits them.

They use comparative reasoning and base their beliefs not on logic, but their own emotional reactions to social issues.
We all do that, whether we like it or not, but there's a difference between people who have the capacity to say, "Wait a minute...am I fooling myself?" and those who can not.

This whole flat earth thing is so bizarre and so irrefutably false; and the adherents are so intense in the energy they put into this nonsense; that I can't help but think it's really an enormous, elaborate practical joke. I just imagine them privately sitting around laughing their ass off at the publicity they're getting and in some cases, the money they're making, at fooling all of us into thinking they really believe this flat earth stupidity.

If the earth really was flat, wouldn't real estate along the perimeter be a hot commodity? Imagine sitting on your porch at night with a view of space!

Oh, wait...

Now I enjoy a good conspiracy, but a flat Earth is a joke. Pictures taken from alien observatories on the moon prove they are wrong. 😁.

The perimeter isn't such a hot commodity. It's rather chilly there. It's all Antarctica. North is in the centre an every direction from there is south. There is no east or west. Just clockwise and counter-clockwise. The sun and moon circle above us and the sun makes an excellent spotlight.

Their model doesn't explain why we can see the moon in the daytime, but they do have an explanation for eclipses. (Note that the sun and moon are the same size.)

Thank you for clearing that up.

I had my bags all packed but didn't include anything warm. I would have felt like a fool.

I would look up how they explain the waxing and waning of the moon, but I really don't care.

I can't grasp how people actually fall for this. It's insane.

Famous you tuber Logan Paul made a scary mockumentary about these people...

We can't grasp when people think that Trump is even a little sane. :telstra: Might as well be a flat earthers. :##:

Occam's Razor is the most powerful tool in the scientific method.

A flat Earth makes too many false assumptions. For example, the casting of shadows during the summer solstice was well known to the ancients, except that in Syene, Egypt, the Sun cast no shadow on that day. In order for the Earth to be flat and explain this discrepancy, the Sun would have to be only a few thousand miles away, which is bogus, or else it would appear in different parts of the sky (parallax). Thus, Erathosthenes was able to calculate the circumference of the Earth.

Conspiracy theories fail along many of the same lines, and usually there is a fatal flaw in the reasoning.

There have been many "conspiracy theories" that have been proven true. Google MK Ultra for starters.

of course. we have to meta look at this question. Ie where did term 'conspiracy theory' become so entrenched in the public mind, for example? When the CIA pushed it there soon after the JFK assassination to dissuade people from challenging the absurd official narrative of what happened! The term acts as a shame-trigger to turn people off from questioning what the elite and their media TELL you what is real and what is false.

Now we also then have to look into what controlled opposition is. This is people who on one hand give you some truth but on the other push none~sense. This includes the flat earth rubbish, but also David Ike and his ridiculous unproveable claims that the elite are really shape-shifting reptilian aliens, and the moon as artificial and a base for evil aliens who hate us etc.

And how does the mainstream media use this. They will use these ridiculous conspiracy theories to discredit the more real conspiracies going on!

That was a secret government project, one amongst thousands. It wasn't a conspiracy theory. The only 'conspiracy' might have been in keeping the experiment a secret, just like all of the other secret government projects.

It was nothing like the thousands of ridiculous conspiracy theories pushed onto people with no proof whatsoever of their authenticity (which is why they're called 'theories') despite overwhelming evidence against them - evidence which is often misinterpreted, misrepresented, misconstrued, manipulated, or outright ignored.

You are not far off at all.

I bet if you took the fools into space and showed them they'd then argue you'd messed with the windows of the space ship to make it seem....
