nero 7 can do it, but i've had substantial problems getting it to work well. i almost always have audio/video sync issues. maybe it's me or my computer, but i've not had much luck with nero. that's the only thing i've tried though.

When I was on a PC I used Nero 6, had to uninstall Nero 7 as I found it crap in comparison.

Using Nero7 and there's no rhyme or reason why some files burn perfectly and some start the audio about 20 seconds early and it drives you insane. It may only happen about 10% of the time but its always something that you wanted to view on your home theatre and not just on the comp.

Has anyone checked Nero tech support yet? I know I need to but those things never end up well.

Assuming you don't have a Mac (which does this with iDVD) I hear Nero Vision can do this.

Nero is very good. I use the software for all my media burning. The software will automaticly convert all to DVD format.

But that still doesn't guarantee the voices will be in proper sync. They may be when I preview just before I burn but that doesn't guarantee 100% success everytime.

I've never ever had that problem whatsoever with that software. In fact, that the first I've heard of this.

I can vouch for the ConvertxtoDVD recommendation - great piece of software, has handled anything I've thrown at it to convert to standard DVD .VOB's. And if missing codecs if your problem, as wirega56 points out, you can get packs for them.

I thought I had got past the codec issues - in the beginning I would be given an error message if there was a codec that I needed that I didn't have. Then the messages stopped so I figured it was smooth sailing until the out of sync issue started. If I were on my home comp right now I'd go searching for downloads.

Dumb question of the day - is there a codec suite that you could download that would address all the avi to dvd issues I've been having?

If there is then please link me up. I don't think that link above is working for me at moment.

TIA (again)

Thanks so much for the help, using XP so chose the right link. Prob won't be burning anything til next week but will be very excited to have this glitch behind me.

Um its $50 US + S & H?
Isn't anything free anymore?
I'll look for the codec first - thought I had all the ones I need.
Well, they have a full time-limited "try" mode before you purchase. That solution can possibly help the original poster get past his immediate hurdle, since he was having an issue with one particular file. :)

If you're having trouble with AVIs you might try downloading Prism - a freeware program that will convert just about any video type to any other video type.

Thank you for suggesting this. I'm always in the market for something that is better; than what I'm currently using.

Guess I'll be trying that next...

The codec showed up on my task bar as running during the transcoding but when I played the DVD it was still out of sync.
(It was fine when I previewed it during the steps prior)

Are there other codecs that will help?

Did some googling last night and found some other message boards where my problem is discussed quite a lot but never actually resolved through a fix to Nero. I emailed Nero tech support and hope to hear back from them. The fact that I paid for this is pissing me off.

If I get nothing from Nero, I will download the trial version someone mentioned above. I have one particular avi file and if it works with that program maybe Santa will buy it for me when the free time ends.

I've used AVI2DVD on my PC machine and it has worked famously.

just google search AVI2DVD, its freeware too. (I can't post links until I have 25 posts?)

Having another option can't hurt.

Finally heard back from Nero and what they "need me to do" will require tech support at my end in person. It's almost like they want me to not bother. Will try the free trial and if need be the freeware and if either perfectly burns one particular avi file then I will uninstall Nero and sell it on eBay or Kijiji.

It's funny you mention this. I'm not sure what is going on with them. Nero used to have very good customer service. They seem to be really bad now. I wonder if the original owners or owner is about to sell it. This is what happens when these software companies are about to sell something. They do make great software for burning and stuff. Yet the customer service has gone down considerablely.

Nero became bad when they started bundling all kinds of crap together. When they still had the stand alone programs I was a great fan of them :(
