This artist rendering released by Dynamic Architecture shows a rotating skyscraper that is to be built in Dubai, in various stages of movement. An Italian architect said he is poised to start construction on the new skyscraper that will be 'the world's first building in motion,' an 80-story tower with revolving floors that give it an ever-shifting shape

I wonder if it will be noisy?

May I present the Chicago Spire:

From Wikipedia said:
The Chicago Spire is a supertall skyscraper under construction in Chicago, Illinois. The building was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and is being developed by Garrett Kelleher of Shelbourne Development Group, Inc. At 2,000 feet (610 m) and with 150 floors, it will be the tallest building in the world after Burj Dubai (2,111 ft or 643.3 m) and Russia Tower (2,009 ft or 612.2 m) when completed in 2012. It will stand taller than Chicago's current tallest tower, Sears Tower and New York's upcoming Freedom Tower, as well as Toronto's CN Tower, thereby becoming North America's tallest free-standing structure and the world's tallest all-residential building.

Here is the link to the official website. it is pretty damned amazing. the site lets you take virtual tours of the building, and lets you see the view from various floors. it has views of four states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan (and of course a beautiful view of Lake Michigan).

prices start at $750,000 and go up to $40,000,000. i am assuming the 4 bedroom units at the top would be closer to the $40 mill.

if you can afford that i'm going to go ahead and ask you to marry me now....

this confuses me. how is that even possible? well i think i get the general idea. but how are they going to power all of the mechanics for this? what happens if the power goes out and you haven't lined up with the elevator yet? it seem like a bad idea. i guess they could use solar power to keep it moving, they are in a sunny climate. i am going to have to watch how this all comes together.

The Dubai rotating skyscraper is planning to use wind power for energy...

video here at reuters

unit floor plan and video link (near bottom of page) Dynamic Architecture

It seems each unit will be able to park their cars on their own floor...seems odd. I'm wondering how they'll get the water and sanitary sewer lines to connect from the stationary central core to the rotating units.

It's definitely a cool concept...but it appears that each of the units will have individual control over the rotation and orientation of their units...I'd like it better if it rotated/spiraled in unison and patterns like some of the videos show...not having all 80 floors be out of sync with each other at the tenants control.

It'll be interesting to see how it evolves...

Imagine the fights over who gets to see the sunset, or whatever.

true...but looking at the picture furthest on the right...here

it looks like it has the potential to be a rotating mess of cubes...rather than a sleek spiral. eh...whatever...I won't be able to see it from my house.

i don't know how safe is the building in post #1 , building 1

looks like it would fall easily. !!

Re: moving tower, I just think the more it spins (and at different speeds), it will just keep looking like the last image. It won't line up perfectly again on its own.

This will be a nice addition to the New York skyline--Tower Verre, 351 meters tall:

Awesome thread Metta! :D

There are a few from my hometown of Dallas, Texas that I'd like to share:

Fountain Place:

Of course Dallas, Texas itself is made up of "Modern Architecture," Fountain Place is the first building on the left:

The Bank of America building, the tallest is outlined in argon lighting at night. Here's a shot looking up during the day:

The newest addition to the Dallas skyline is Victory Tower/Wyndam:

I'll admit not nearly as impressive of some of the other submissions in this thread, but I get to see and touch these! :D
