How does one go about finding a television station which broadcasts the signal? The 'Auto' function on my VCR started going whacko earlier this week, setting the time several hours late and dated in mid-February, 2003. Apparently, the station the Auto function reads from is a little out-of-date.

I've manually tried the PBS stations, the news stations, and even the Weather Channel and any other channel which has a clock running on them, but none of them apparently have the signal because the VCR doesn't find it.

Any ideas?

PBS is supposed to be the one. I've found that it's a hit-or-miss and doesn't always work.

Yeah, it is supposed to be PBS. The thing to do might be to unplug the VCR, leave it unplugged for a while, then plug it in again. Basically forcing it to "reset".

Ooooo! Now there's a thought!

Thank goodness for you people in touch with your inner (techonological) selves.

Nope. Didn't work. The originating signal must be screwed up. It's still setting up to Feb. 12, 2003.

Thanks anyway for the help and suggestions.

I did it the old-fashioned way and pushed a bunch of buttons.

I've used PBS with three or four different players and it's always worked, but sometimes it takes at least 15 minutes to happen. I think the signal is only sent out periodically.

I've been trying all day, Josher, selecting the channels it should search. Mine takes time to locate the signal as well, so I gave an hour to each channel, and nothing came up. Each time I set it on 'Auto', though, it keeps finding the same signal. The time changes, but the date and year remain the same each time.

I think it's a problem with the originating signal. Unfortunately, I can't look to see which channel it is drawing it from.

Every once in a while, something goes haywire with my PBS station's time signal too. I usually just go manual--- and check back in a week or so.

I'm a little confused by your last post. Are you saying the time is correct but the date is wrong? Because the PBS signal won't correect the date. You probably know that, but you mentioned the date staying the same.

No, the tiime was incorrect as well, but it advanced as the day passed. The date and year, however, did not change.

For example, let's say at Noon my time, the 'Auto' would find 3 AM, Feb. 12, 2003. At 5 PM my time, the Auto would find 8 AM, Feb. 12, 2003.

If I were to check again tomorrow, the time would still be out by 9 hours, but the date will change to Feb. 13, 2003.

It's been that way since Sunday night.
