So I've been in a relationship with my boyfriend for 1 month now, and things are great; however, in September I leave for university (first year) to a city 16 hrs away. We are both interested in keeping the relationship afloat - but is it practical? Or even possible for that matter?

I worry he will get lonely, because I know I will. I don't know what to do in this situation... We have discussed flying every 2 weeks, but on a student budget that is going to be really difficult.

Is it possible? Yes.
Is it practical? No.

School - both the academic and social components - tend to overwhelm your schedule, relegating past relationships more like afterthoughts. You CAN keep the relationship going, but it will take a LOT of effort on both your parts.

16 hours away? That's going to be a tough one.

Unless he can relocate, it's probably going to put your relationship on pause or stop.

Yeah.. He's in his third year of university (I'm 19, he's 21). He seems interested in keeping everything going, but how can I tell him it might not work without breaking his heart? :S

Unfortunately when you tell him it could very well break his heart but as Lex said it is possible but not at all practical and sweetie don't let that weigh to heavily on you because believe me if i had a dollar for every time someone broke my heart i would be a very rich gay man!

Just go with hope.

And agree to see if things work out.

You'll both know after a few months whether it is a workable arrangement.

I agree. Give it a try and see what happens. It will definitely be hard so be realistic. There are the good and bad. I was in a long-distance relationship for almost two years. The good thing was I was working and had some money to fly out every month. The time spent together is so much more special and appreciated. Even the goodbyes as painful as they were, were so meaningful. It would take my ex and I almost four or five goodbyes before we actually went our separate ways. Somehow I remember all of those moments whereas, the departures of my other relationships I can barely remember.
