I want my raw kombucha!!! But something bigger is going on, the FDA and health food department want to stop access to raw, healthy, organic foods. Now they using the police as an extension of their force.

It's amazing what toxic chemicals are legal in foods, yet something raw, fresh, healthy is against the law.

Illegal Enough to warrant four or five male officers with guns draw in a hippy health food store??? That seems excessive.

why do they treat this like a drug raid? spend 500$ an hour teaching school children proper nutrition and you will save many more lives.

misguided priorities.

Did they really need to raid the place? I'm sure they could have walked in and do what was needed..Wait...finesse is not in the protocol.

I don't know if you guys heard a parallel story but a "fresh produce" store was a front for a meth dealer. They had to destroy all the produce for fear of contamination.

Who knows what else was suspected but the police don't make the assumptions that you do.

Who would want to drink raw milk, anyway? You may as well just suck on a cow. It's really dangerous and unnecessary, especially considering there's no shortage of local, organic dairies that sell their own pasteurized milk. Usually, they're out in the country and it makes for a fun day trip, anyway.

If people want to follow the raw food movement, that's fine, but not everything is safe to consume raw and milk is definitely one of them.

I always find it amusing to learn how many people assume the police get to pick and choose what assignments they have to comply with, and what laws they have to enforce.

They are an extension of the politicians. If you have an issue with what they are doing, look beyond the “cops” at the assholes making the laws.

I find it extremely disturbing just how uneducated and moronic a lot of those people are.

In Canada, the Conservative government is dedicated to pushing through Bill C-32, a reform to current Copyright law that cover issues ranging from text to electronics. The problem? The politicians voting on the bill know nothing about the issues, so they rely on mass-media industry to “advise” them what is fair or not. Hell, some of the people voting on the bill proudly announce that they don’t even own a computer or have any clue what an “iPod” is.

One section of the bill would give absolute power to any form of media with a digital lock, so it would literally become illegal to copy music from a legitimately bought CD to your iPod or to make a backup DVD of one you legitimately own. Other parts of the bill would make it illegal to jailbreak an iPhone… you know, the very thing that was just deemed legal in the US. I could go on.

Oh, and I agree that the organic foods movement is 90% bullshit and it is illegal to sell unpasteurized milk for a good reason.

An Amish farmer was charged with doing that not too long ago in the US.

When I lived on Whidbey Island, and my own goats weren't giving milk, I drove across the island to purchase milk (raw) from another goat herder and from an elderly man that sold raw milk from his Jersey cows. I'm still alive, btw.

Raw milk is actually the only way to ingest it, in other forms it's poison.

In all seriousness, there's an argument to be made about why humans need cow's milk in the first place.

What other mammal drinks another's species milk ? Cow's milk exists for one reason, to turn bovine calf's into heifers and dairy cows. WHY on earth are we drinking it ?

I think we've been sold a bill of goods. We were brought up in the "milk does a body good" and "Got Milk ?" era... But really, I'm not sure we should be drinking it...

I mention this only because a nutritionist friend of mine advised me to go off of all dairy. I was having trouble with losing weight and headaches and such..

Well, *damn* less than a month later I feel 10 times better and the weight is falling off...

Just my opinion.

^Agreed, Joshua_me.

Milk is an entirely over rated food.

If one has to drink it, it should be in its most natural form.

The stuff sold in groceries is an unnatural product.

Follow the money. Dairy farmers that use growth hormones and antibiotics for pasteurized milk gain profits at the expense of unaware consumers and our government supports them! Gotta keep people sick so they run to the drug companies. It's an awful cycle.

It is a major ingredient in most baking and food stuffs. It is a good source of many vitamins and calcium we need. We make many dairy-related products from it. It tastes good.

But in places like Asia where milk consumption is little to non-existent, one of the insults for white/European people is “stinky cheese eater.”

Apparently eating dairy confers a certain smell, similar to how many East Indians smell like spice, or many Chinese smell like… what the fuck is that Asian-ish smell? I first noticed it in kindergarten. I was sitting on the matt for story time, and the Chinese kid in front of me had this really strong smell I had never really noticed before. I remember leaning forward to smell him, and thinking it was a really bad smell. Kind of like moth balls and stale bread. Seriously, why do so many of them smell like that? Jesus Christ. Anyway…

If you don’t like it, don’t drink it. It is true that whole milk and related dairy products are high in calories. Personally, I sparingly drink 1% partially skimmed. :)

Raw milk, when properly handle, is pretty much armless... And it make way much better cheese... If you ever come to Québec, we have a very flourishing raw milk cheese industry... and we are in relative good health thank you very much!

Loki, apparently, we suffer from a whole lot more degenerative diseases than our grandparents did, too....

Our grandparents also smoked a lot more cigarettes! Maybe smoking tobacco is actually good for you, without all those added chemicals!
