Copy Kindle file with notes to PC?

Working on my Kindle, I added notes to a MS Word document. I want to view this in my Kindle for PC rather than on the device. When I attach the cord to transfer files, the manuscript seems unchanged and the notes are in the Clippings.txt file. I can copy the two files to my PC's Kindle folder. What I don't understand is how to get them together to see the notes in context, not in a list. My notes make little sense without the text. On the Kindle, it shows a few lines with the notes. In Clippings.txt, it's just the notes with a location number.

SUMMARY: How can I copy an annotated Word document to Kindle for PC and view the notes in context as I can on the Kindle?

To clarify, the file started as Word, something I thought might make a difference. I know it's not in Word on the Kindle. (Someone elsewhere pointed that out.)

I know little about the Kindle Fire, but I am advised this is not easy to do.


From Amazon's Kindle help forum:

1) Using the USB cable, access the MyClippings text file from your computer and copy and paste the notes you've made for that document. For now, you can let them "float" at the end of the original Word doc.

2) Taking them note by note, work out where they belong in the original doc, create a footnote, and transfer the text to the footnote instead of the main body.

3) With your kindle next to your computer, read through every page of the document on kindle, find the highlighted bits, and highlight the same sections in the original doc.

Sorry, but that's the only way.

The problem appears to be that the Kindle automatically converts MS Word documents into native Kindle .mobi documents. When you add notations on the Kindle, you are adding them to a .mobi document, not a Word document. There does not appear to be any easy way to convert .mobi documents back to compatible Word documents, understandable to MS Word on your PC.

If you wish to do this sort of thing occasionally, it is possible that a Kindle office suite like OfficeSuite Professional can do this conversion, but don't take my word for this. I do not know for certain.

The other option, if you typically have access to wifi, would be to edit your documents online in Google Docs.

Thanks. That's very helpful even though I wasn't trying to convert to Word. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I was trying to read and edit the annotated mobi file in my Kindle for PC program instead of on the Kindle device.

I ended up reading the notes on the Kindle with it next to my PC where I could integrate my notes. With my deadline, the low-tech option seemed best this time.

you might try Calibre ebook converter. It's a free download from here
http://calibre-ebook.com/download_windows It won't convert to Word but it will convert to rich text and text

Calibre is one of my favorite programs. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm not sure I was clear that I'm not trying to convert a file this time. I want the file to stay exactly the same as it is on my Kindle.
