I haven't noticed it, to be honest. But I'd suggest that maybe if you're inordinately attractive, you perhaps get used to getting things without having to work that hard for them. And as such, you may not put in enough effort to get higher than you would otherwise.

Nope, not true. I know some very hot, successful men.

i dunno about this to be honest with you. i think it has more to do with how ambitious and driven you are than how you look. if you're determined to be a success, you'll make it somewhere. i think if you're trying to be a porn star or a model than your looks will matter but otherwise, you better work your ass off to get somewhere even if you're getting help.

There was a study made in France about this subject. And it's now proven that if you have better looks that the other guy, there is more chance you will be more successful in your job than the other, more so if the job is about human relations.

PS : and in average a beautiful woman is paid more than an ugly one, even for the same post, same responsibilities and outcome of said job. (I believe it was the same for men)

^ What oakpope said.

You are much more likely to be successful in business and in life generally if you are good looking.

Converse . I have throughout my life proceeded with the premise that my life generally would have been more of a success if I chanced to have even average much less " good " looks . However several years ago I was in a relationship with a guy I think could be called stunningly attractive . He was "molested" at the age of seven and fairly consistently regularly by everyone after that , including his mother and several of her boyfriends , and his brother and sister and several of their pets , and became a "hooker" at about 14 . So reasonably his looks destroyed his life .

The study is based on large number but you would always have circumstantial fact of the opposite result of the study in some cases.
But it's statistically true nonetheless.

Has anyone noticed that the most handsome, supernaturally good looking guys are never in the top careers, are never really rich or really recognized or above average in any way?

Obviously you are not familiar with the entertainment industry, & you have probably never been to Los Angeles or NYC.

In Hollywood, it's no coincidence that almost all of the major roles in television & movies go to rakishly handsome White men, particularly good-looking white men ("heartthrobs") who are in their late teens, 20s, and 30s.

Black & Latino men find it much harder to land roles in movies & television. For Asians, Middle-Easterners, or Indians its extremely difficult. The few roles they can get are roles that play to stereotypes (i.e. the Middle Eastern terrorist, the Asian computer nerd, the Indian doctor or motel/gas station owner).

Some extraordinarily good-looking men expect their looks to help them sail through life and don't work as hard to develop careers and be successful as their less attractive peers, and ultimately they fall behind. Moreover, I wonder what becomes of all of the handsome waiters and trainers when they fail to become successful actors or models. And even if they do become successful, it's most often for an only brief period--so what do they do for a second act?

I know two very handsome, smart men who married (smart, beautiful and very nice) heiresses who have given them a life they never could have had otherwise. One of them now works at his wife's father's firm and is making a ton of money on his own. He also works his ass off. The other recently quit his "day job" (which was proving frustrating and at a dead end) and is now happy, it seems, to be simply a devoted husband and father. By the way, both guys have helped to produce breathtakingly beautiful children, which may have been part of the reason they got the gig.

you're right.

but let me keep it real though, as someone that isn't considered good looking to the masses and etc, i don't listen or for that matter believe this bullshit about good looks and success. not because of data or whatever but if i actually believed that shit, i would completely give up and stop trying to live my life. you know, i already live in a world that is more for my downfall than my coming up so do i need shit like this to make my lack of confidence having ass for worse about myself? so because i'm not attractive or whatever, i should look forward to playing with my hand for the rest of my life, get cosmetic surgery or basically go out my way to be somebody else to have somebody on my dick? fuck that. i have things to work on with myself but i'm content with myself to the point where i don't think i'm going to change my looks or who i am just to get someone to notice me. if i end up alone by myself because nobody likes my looks or my personality even though i'm cool with it, that's all good. it might hurt my feelings but i'll live. i'd rather cry myself to sleep or be mad as hell than to be kissing their ass. if they didn't notice me before, they obviously never gave a fuck about me in the first place. that's on them. i also try to refrain from all that good looking guy, good looking people, superficial bullshit as well because i know how it is when so and so gets treated this way and so and so gets treated that way. i also know how certain people like to gas themselves up with their looks as well. to me, i've seen a lot of ugly things come out of that so i try my hardest to stay away from that.

It in part has to do with the Halo effect.

If you consider someone attractive, you're more easy to forgive them or overlook their faults.

People (not all) who are attractive can live in a bubble of overconfidence, so how they carry themselves influences how others perceive them. 30 Rock did an episode on this with Tina Fey and Jon Hamm.

For example, you'd take the same man more seriously if he were wearing a suit versus casual attire... because the man in the suit, more likely than not, will look more attractive, and be more confident thus making you believe more in his competency and you'd be more willing to overlook his minor faults.

I believe they've done Jury studies on this as well.

Has anyone noticed that the most handsome, supernaturally good looking guys are never in the top careers, are never really rich or really recognized or above average in any way? Am I seeing any correlation between this. I recently come across vilem Helen. He's one of the most handsome guys I've ever seen, literally, in my life, BUT he's only a lowly pornstar. And to add to it, he's not even that he's not even top in the industry.

It depends on education and the brain as well. If he gets interviewd with 5 others, the cutest one would get the
job.
Most good looking men don't know how to exploit their advantage. It depends onthe field you applied the job in eg porn, acting, business, hotel manager etc

Looks definitely play a factor, other things being equal. Course that is never the real case. I know a few "good-looking" people that got hired at my place and were let go within 6 months because they have shit for brains. I may not be the prettiest or the most charismatic but my intellect is what keeps me working.

You should stop relying on wanking and porn and get out more.... ;)

I think a lot of people who are considered good lucking are usually more successful. Not just because the people who hire them are shallow. But usually when your good looking, means you have more confidence. If you have a healthy amount confidence you're usually more outgoing, and social. Being more social with your co-workers means your probably more liked, then the guy who just sits in office all day and doesnt socilize with anyone. Meaning your more likely to get a promotion. Now this is all just conditional.

I know in S-Korea that looks play an important part in getting a job, and its no hidden truth that a better looking person will get a job over an uglier person. Its why plastic surgery is huge in S-Korea, and is seen as a postie thing to get plastic surgery done.

Can't really say I've seen a correlation personally. I've seen people go up the pecking order at work and their looks go down hill if that counts?
Most of the "higher-ups" I've encountered aren't lookers, but I have seen some very attractive business men and women over the years who clearly had good jobs.

Slightly off topic, but I always find comments about "lowly porn stars" or stuff along those lines a bit odd on a forum centred around porn...

I never knew we could reflect the world and parametre of success from the tin-eye of porn industry
