  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Could you name some intimate gay themed movies, please?

I have watched Weekend and it was amazing. I re-watched Glen and Russell scenes today and I... [Spoilers!] totally got Glen, the first time I watched it I thought he was annoying, but then I saw where he's coming from and felt his pain. Man this movie made me think the whole day.

Is that an alternate title for The Ice Storm?

(I'm taking your question seriously. Maybe it's a joke. Too often I don't get jokes because I take people too seriously.)

No, it's a different movie, done earlier. Never saw Ice Storm, but I heard it was depressing.
The Wedding Party is fun, clever, has a happy ending and stars two sexy guys who very convincingly portray two men in love. Lee made the movie before he hit it big with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I think he got a Jane Austen movie (Sense and Sensibility? Emma?) because of his work on The Wedding Party.

I wasn't joking. Your description sounded similar to The Ice Storm (also directed by Ang Lee), and I hadn't heard of The Wedding Party until now, hence the question. Thanks for answering. :)

Happy to oblige. However I got the title wrong: it's THE WEDDING BANQUET.

How could I not have listed Patrik 1,5? -- one of my all-time favorites as well.

Latter Days... great movie.

Also Trick, one of my favorites.

Oh yes! Like I said, Trick was (or is) one of my all time favorite movies. I saw it in the movie theatre and laughed my head off and then cried (tears of joy) at the end of the movie. I found it very emotionally moving. One of the best gay movies ever.

My problem with gay-themed movies are that they are so damn depressing lately. Why can a GTM not cover a feel-good story (even if not real).

Best GTM I have seen is "Presque Rien" - depressing, but sexy and realistic. Not like this "Another Gay Movie" and "Eating Out" rubbish we have been serveed lately.

I bought Trick on DVD in 2000 from Circuit City shortly after the disk was released. I've never heard of the film before. Since then I must have watched it 20 times. It's not preachy, doesn't lecture or try to teach a lesson. No one pays for their sins at the end of the movie. It's just a nice boy meets boy falling-in-love story. There's a lot of 1990's New York City Greenwich Village location shots. Tori Spelling is actually funny in it!

Highly recommended!

They were already mentioned, but I loved Summer Storm, maybe a little more than most because I row. Shelter and Weekend are also great watches.

Were the World Mine.

It's an adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream with a gay twist. Kind of seemed a bit shallow to start with, but by the end was really heartfelt and moving.

I really liked the movie called "Beautiful Thing". It's a story about two British teens that are friends and they discover they have feelings for each other. It's a good story and the acting isn't bad either.

^Agree. One of my top ten favorites. Particularly when they are playing in the forest.

Guy comes home. He and his Mother (Glenn Close) sit and get to know each other and their romantic lives and Mother watches and learns of her 20 something son who she gave birth too but never really knew. Sister and Father have problems though with homophobia and anger over the situation because there is nothing they can do. This guy (Robert Sean Leonard) comes home to die with AIDS. (Spoiler) He does die and you never meet his lover, but you know as does his Mother that he did love before he left Earth. As she loves her Husband.

Directed by Christopher Reeve from 1997 a HBO short flick "In the Gloaming"
