Though I think I am the cleanest person on earth, I have crabs.
Just noticed them yesterday, nits on pubic hair, and the tiny little crabs. Got a few loose and put them under a magnifier, no doubt of what they are.

Being a clean freak, yeah I freaked. Couldn't wait to drive into town for a cure, wanted these things gone. Had some garden grade Maliathion that I mixed , about 1/2 oz to 64 oz water. Washed my entire body in this solution except my head. Left it on all night. Yeah the fumes were pretty bad trying to sleep. Really soaked the pubic and butt areas. Today I don't find crabs but still have some of the nits.
Question: Did this solution kill the nits too? Or do I need to retreat.
I will wash my bedding and cloths with hot water.

Anything else I need to do? Do I still need to buy the crab/lice treatment from the phramacy?

It has been about two months since I have had sex with anyone, jo and oral only. Is this the only way to contract them?
Can't stand the thought of the nits hatching out and attacking me again.
Thanks for any information.

Well, as freaky as lice can be, they're not inherently "dirty" and seldom cause disease. More than anything, they're just a nuisance.

Most people get public lice from groin to groin contact when the louse transfers from one person to the other. I've had a few patients with pubic lice who didn't know exactly when they were exposed. Sometimes that is because they picked them up from sleeping on a friend's couch or in some cases, they have had them for a few weeks and didn't realize it. Most people find the lice because they itch; the itching is actually an allergy that you develop to the lice, so if it's your first time having lice, it may take days or weeks before you have enough of a reaction that you begin itching.

Lice are specialized- the kind that thrive around the penis need the very coarse hair that is found in the groin, between the buttcheeks, the treasure trail and occasionally the lower back. Very rarely- public lice will find their way into a thick beard or moustache during oral sex but that is not very typical.

Scalp lice thrive on the finer hair on the top of the head.

If you have scalp lice, you usually only need to treat your head. If you have public lice, we generally recommend that you treat nipple to knee, including the armpits. If you're hairy, be sure to get apply on the buttcheeks, under the scrotum and around the anus

Important: buy the preparations available in the drug store and follow the directions. The commercial kits often come with a spray for your mattress and any furniture you've been sitting or sleeping on. There's often a lathering soap and often a lotion that you apply and leave on. Most of these contain mild pesticides, so the directions usually say to leave each of the preparations on for a specific amount of time. Be sure to pay attention- the stronger solutions are left on for about 10-20 minutes and the weaker lotions are left on overnight or for up to 24 hours. Unless the directions say to leave them on longer, do not leave them on overnight- they can be toxic and can irritate your skin.

Lice are well-adapted to their human hosts. They don't live on other animals and without warmth and human blood, they die off very quickly. So, if you treat your body hair, and you soak your sheets, underwear and towels in the washer with hot water and you treat your mattress, that's usually enough to get rid of the living ones.

The nits are a little hardier, so you usually have to treat your body twice- usually between 3 to 7 days after the first treatment, to ensure complete genocide of the little buggers.

Nits and lice cannot live if you shower daily with soap can they? :?

KaraB's advice is pretty good, but I admire your ingenuity. If you worked out the percentages right, the malathion should do the trick. You'll need to repeat after a week or 10 days to kill the then hatching nits.

The only time I ever got crabs I killed them with flea powder for dogs. Carabamate was the active ingredient, I believe. I still laugh thinking about it. I sprinkled the flea powder on my crotch and rubbed it in well. Well, let me tell you, lice don't like that stuff! They went crazy in their death throes and scrabbled drove me crazy with the itching as they died. All over in ½ an hour.

Had scabies once, too. I think I did just as you did: mixed up some malathion from the nursery (Peach leaf curl treatment) with some body lotion (Drakkar Noir -- this was the 80's and that scent still brings back memories). Stunk like high hell, but I killed them little critters.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
I gave the wrong ratio for my mix, it was about 1/2 oz Malathion to 16 oz water and I slopped it all over my body except my head. I think I may have gotten it a little strong as the smell was almost unbearable and I got a burning sensation on the tender parts, scrotum and leg creases.
Ovite, the OTC remedy contains 0.005 g per ml of Malathion. I don't know how this translates to ounces. One site claims the Malathion kills the nits too, but I am still undecided about shaving. I did shave the hangers and trimmed the bush , should I shave everything including the butt crack?
Harke, what brand of lotion did/do you use?

Telstra, read my post, I am a clean freak................... I shower daily or more, with soap and use one of those little plastic netting looking things to scrub with. Sort of a Brillo pad for people.............
So obviously they can live on a clean person. End of rant.

Many who contract pubic crabs also entirely shave their pubic hair, arse crack, and sometimes even the hair surrounding their legs.
karabulut explained it all very well.
Getting rid of the crabs eggs are paramount.
Also, make sure you wash all bedding and towels that you think may have been in contact.

The crabs are gone!! And so are the nits, least I couldn't find any this morning. My mixture must have been industrial strength. Am very happy I got rid of all of them in two days.
I did wash all of my cloths, towels , sheets and scrubbed my bathroom down with pure bleach.
I definitely will keep check to see if they come back.

Again thanks to all.

Wow, are you saying you used a petro based agriculture pesticide of Malathion on your body all night? Even though you cut the ratio you got balls I'll say that. That doesn't sound like a very nontoxic thing to do to your body. After it killed the lice in a short order of time your flesh was still absorbing all that mess for hours. And around the delicate skin in the pubic and ass wow, it didn't burn you up?
I felt like you when the first time I discovered crabs. How did I get them? Mine were around the hairs on my belly button and not in the pubes directly. At first I thought they were a rash because they were little red spots like scabs and itched. I kept putting human medicine on them and nothing happened but there were more showing up. I was looking at them and noticed they appeared to be moving when I spread the medication around them.
Even after treating them and getting rid of them they weren't gone. They never moved south to my pubes around my genitals however they did move. I have long hair and they climbed up my hair from my naval area and entrenched behind my ears, which was about 2 wks after treatment that I discovered this. It was very upsetting to have pube lice behind my ears on my head.

Yeap, that's what I did. I did get some burning and the smell was very bad. I did get some irratation , used a lotion to sooth things down abit after my shower. Will follow up in a week with RID or some other med made for this purpose. I probably have enough Malathion in my body for a while.
I didn't think pubic lice would attack you head, they like warm , moist areas.

For anyone trying to rid themselves of pubic lice, before using a "home-made" remedy, please remember that your skin is also the largest
organ that we posses.
Applying a home-made solution can very easily lead to blemish's and scarring, please also remember that you will be inhaling the fumes from whatever mix of chemicals you use.
With the wide variety of over the counter preparations that are readily available and reasonably priced, there should really be no need
to mix your own "brew".

Harke, what brand of lotion did/do you use?

I used a brand called "Prioderm". It claims to have 0,5% malathion (doesn't say if that's the percentage of volume or mass).
Also its not use after date was 09/98 and it still worked like a charm two years ago.

When I was living in Europe I got them twice (the only times in my life -- not sure if that's a Europe thing).

At any rate, the first time I used Kwell and it worked. The second time I was travelling and tried mineral oil -- just soaked it all over, left if for fifteen minutes, and it seemed a comb took it all away. Repeated a few days later, and they were gone! Totally non-medicinal, which I liked. And it was good for the skin, lol.

Apparently they breathe through their "skin" and the oil suffocates them.
