Crist takes anti-gay marriage position

"When it comes to marriage, I think it is a sacred institution. I believe it is between a man and woman, but partners living together, I don't have a problem with," added Crist, the former Republican-turned-Independent who is leading the three-way Senate race in most recent polls and is counting on significant support from Democratic and independent voters to eek out a victory.

In a statement released later Sunday, Crist said he in fact is against a Constitutional ban on same sex marriage and was instead only offering his support for a state ban on the practice.

"I was not discussing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution banning same-sex marriage, which I do not support, but rather reaffirming my position regarding Florida's constitutional ban that I articulated while running for governor," he said in the statement.

I have heard many tales of Crist, the batchelor covernor, and his supposed gay status so this one surprised me.

Back in march, the gay patriot, a site that bills itself as the internet home for the american gay conservative, blatanty threatened to out him on their site.

it says he accused rubio of going to salons and getting back waxes, which indicated that since he used gay lingo there was an intimation that he was gay.... mind you these are gay republicans saying this about another gay republican.....

Speaking of gay Governor Crist…. is this really a topic you want to play around with? You know there are a lot of rumors about you in the Florida gay community.

Chortling about back waxes might lead your political opponents (gay liberals) to bring up those rumors in the General Election.

A whole lot of internal gay politics are going on down there and its not helping anyone but the anti gay republican agenda.

These older people live in another century, like Larry Craig. They're still scared of being gay or called gay. I don't know how you make it to your 40's and still be in the closet.

When will it be time to be true to yourself? Or are you living for other people?

Some older guy at the gym today was staring at me. And I went to go take a piss, and look who we have here following me with his mouth gaping open? He must have thought I was going to the steam room. I'm sure he had a wife at home and probably gay bashes to throw stupid people off of his real orientation.

Crist is *not* openly gay, though. He got married to a woman in 2008.

He's thoroughly disgusting.

I think she is one of the people accusing him of being gay... he was also associated with a great many women who have all intimated the same thing.

What this means is all a guess and the gay republicans threat to out him seems to intimate that they have people who WOULD say they had sex with him. What proff they have is also only speculation.

What we definitely have are gay rebublicans FOR Rubio using their insider gay status as a means of harming the now independent Crist.

They are basically threatening to prove he is gay if he continues to call Rubio gay. That whole weird activity means that the gay movement in Florida is using its political clout to keep the bann on gay marriage.

It is weird and bizarre.

You don't need to be a genius to see Charlie Crist is gay and so deep in the closet he will never find his way out. He knows it will be political suicide for him to come out from around those Jimmy Choos he walks around the house in.

As Lostlover mentioned, he grew up in a different time where you didn't reveal yourself and hid behind a wife and led a miserable life. I know a lot of middle age men still like this and will continue to live their lives terrified to be revealed as gay.

Crist is the obvious choice, and since the polls have become stagnant with Crist running 8 points ahead of Rubio, it is his to win or lose.

Rubio has topped out in that he is one of the teabaggers that people are now considering extreme, so Crist is getting 20 percent of the republicans consisently in his polling data.

that means that rubio either has to become more moderate to get the middle vote, or stay more conservative to keep the radcons. He will stay with the radcons and he will lose to Crist, IMO.

You also have to wonder how he really feels changing his stance to get peoples' votes that don't like him. I mean, seriously, he did this about face to get votes from people who put a candidate's sexuality over economic realities.

He's really scraping the bottom of the barrel here. I hope he's aware of this.

I kinda take the same position on this as I do with Obama. We don't really know what his position really is.

He knows the political reality that supporting gay marriage in a swing state is not a winning proposition at this point.

He may not support it, or he may be lying (as all politicians do) out of necessity.
