Crossing your legs

Sometimes I sit ankle to knee. If I'm facing someone and i'm sitting in my desk, I'll cross my legs. And if I'm feeling flexible, I'll double cross them which is where you cross them once, lets say your left over right, and then you tuck your left foot behind your right leg. Like in my pic.

But during some unfortunate events, like right when the picture was about to take, one of my balls will sort of travel up inside of me and hurt like a bitch. XD

(damn, while previewing this post, I realized how effeminate that looked. lol)

Are you wearing a kilt?

When I was five years old, my mother slapped the shit out of me and threw me across the room because I was sitting with my legs crossed at the knee... that's how girls sit, boys must cross their legs by propping an ankle on the knee. And so of course I sat like that every opportunity I got, just to spite her (though of course only where she couldn't see me). And I continued to sit like that almost exclusively until my late 20s.

I'm sitting like that right now, as a matter of fact. But that's because of the height and depth of my couch, crossing my legs at the knee props my laptop at the correct angle for writing. In a higher chair, I don't think I'd bother.

By the way, neither a lady nor a gentleman should sit with legs crossed at all. Ladies should sit with knees together and ankles crossed, and gentlemen with feet firmly planted parallel to the hip.

Am I the only one who sits on my ankle?
I was recently watching Little Lord Fauntleroy with Freddie Bartholomew, and noticed that every time he sat down, he'd prop his right leg on the chair behind him and sit down on his ankle... kind of like this:

I thought it was really cute, and I do sit like that sometimes. And sometimes with my ankle on my knee. And, as previously stated, sometimes with one knee atop the other. But most of the time I don't cross my legs at all, it's simply more comfortable in most types of seats to keep both feet on the floor.

According to whom? I believe this is dicated by circumstance. At dinner, feet on the floor but in the parlour, ankles crossed or on knee whilst drinking whiskey and smoking a cigar whilst the wimmin are in the kitchen making tea ;P

Crossing your legs is pretty common here, but really depends on the the guy and if it's comfortable. Nothing taboo about it altho' I don't see many men crossing knee over leg. Mostly ankle over knee or ankles crossed esp. when relaxed.

I do ankle on knee. I would never do the full cross. It looks natural on some guys and others it looks more weird than gay. If you do the full cross please do not shake your foot like Peg Bundy.

It was according to the arbiters of etiquette and deportment in the 19th and 20th centuries. Who don't much matter, and whose dicta only applied to the upper classes anyway. But you get mad extra points for using "whom" correctly! ;)

If you look at antique furniture, you'll notice that it was generally designed to be sat on in the manner described... feet flat on the floor; armchairs and sofas were the same height as dining chairs. It wasn't until the introduction of the Turkish divan into Victorian homes that people started to lounge. Nowadays most furniture is low to the ground and very soft, and sitting with legs splayed any old whichaway is not only possible, but more comfortable.

But that's all neither here nor there. I'm having racing thoughts today, it helps if I write them down.
