OMG so it sort of randomly happened.

I got off work about an hour ago and I was taking the highway but decided to get off the ramp because there were signs of construction and roadwork. Also my co-workers were kinda late today and one who was coming in warned me that the highways are extremely busy right now.

So getting off the exit and onto the main road I come to a stop light. I'm just jamming to my music like a tard and I look at my rearview mirror and see a beautiful bearded man on a motorcycle behind me. I feel a little shy but look back and he gives me a nice grin. I question why the hell would a bear be cruising me? I couldn't imagine how I could be giving off any signals at all.

I than realized that I forgot the previous owner of the truck was a bear and he put stupid police support stickers on the side to avoid tickets and a bear sticker on the back of the car. It's not a bear pride sticker but a bear saying or something. I had no idea that something like that would actually work. I felt flattered and it was a shame that he changed lanes. But it was nice while it lasted. I know adults and gay men cruise all the time while driving, while out in public at a store, or walking, and etc. It's not something I generally do because I'm not good at it.

But who would have really thought that advertisement would work. And I was thinking about taking that sticker off and putting something else up. Now that I think about it the shirt I wore at pride on sunday (wasn't wearing it to advertise) was a bear pride t-shirt. Just a rainbow colored bear paw. Some random bear came up to me and complimented me and sort of hit on me that day. I never thought about wearing those gay shirts before or even trying to advertise. But I guess google was right, advertising was works. I never would have guessed. Anyways just a random pointless thread. I'm sure some guys here are expert cruisers >_>. Back to reality (err..the internet) there are some pretty good threads on JUB today.

And like I said, even though I don't cruise often because I am not good at it I have done it before at..places and know the look. I don't know if he was trying to say or gesture something or if he was just appreciating the cruise. I got really nervous and shy and mostly focussed on the road or just looked back every so often. I thought about putting the windows down and when we come to a stop...well see what unfolds I guess. I know a cruise can be just a cruise and I'm fine with that.

It just seems rather ironic that I get hit on (literally felt on..I mean hit on) by a bearish guy at pride and now cruised exactly the next day. Maybe I should wear a fun shirt tomorrow :D

I personally want to learn more about how guys cruise each other with looks, gestures, and how so much can happen in a single glance and it be just that. Even though I know some about it I want to learn more.

After he changed lanes to go to wherever, I just took a deep breath, calmed down, and went back to tarding to my music and than went home :O
 
I remember when the BF was going down I-5 to Oregon a trucker kept honking his horn each time he passed by us, we had no idea why. So then we caught up to him and I would look at the driver couldn't really see since it was really dark.

So he honked again this time when I looked around his truck I spotted a bear paw on the window so he was definitely a bear. Also the BF has a bear flag sticker on the back of his truck so people will notice it when they are behind him.
 
Haha. He honked? Awesome. It's hard to see the driver's of trucks before but I'll admit I looked. Actually there is a certain place where I've seen truckers gather. Leaving that area once when I was using a really little car I passed by one truck and I saw the guy inside and he looked directly at me. I was too nervous so I drove by. I did stop for a second though.

I guess those bear paws and bear stickers really work. Who would've known. It's not that I don't like the bear sticker on the truck it's just that the saying or phrase on it is kinda lame. I'd prefer just a bear pride sticker. But than again it is sort of subtle and I'll leave it on. I might put another sticker on. Now that I think about it I've been pulled over 3 times and I did not get a ticket. Maybe those wierd police support stickers work too.

Interesting how something as simple as a sticker, logo, or symbol says so much and how people respond to it differently.
 
Well, I think just as gays are a small percentage of the population and get teased by straight guys, bears are a small percentage of the gay population and are teased about their fur. So we really relate to people who are into us. Less fear of rejection.

And I honestly don't get people who can't tell a cruise-y smile from a polite one. World of difference.

Based on your anecdotal evidence I'm gonna run right out and buy bear stickers for my car, scooter, and bicycle! :)
 
My bf and I are watching Queer as Folk ( me for the second time) and I think 'bears' were mentioned in one episode over the 5 year run of the show, and in a dismissive way, at that.

And a bearish guy was shown in a first-season episode about Ted's visit to a gay social group, and they made him seem like a food- and speedo-obsessed freak. In that same episode, a barely overweight guy who didn't go to the gym daily was made to seem like a gay aberration.

No wonder bears are so tight knight--we get so much discrimination from our own community. :(

Easy enough to tell them apart sometimes when you're right there because of all the body language.

Not as easy in your rearview with a guy on a bike, I wouldn't have thought.

That's why they created the bear community to get away from that six pack model / twink like image cause the overweight bears weren't attractive enough or fit in to the mainstream gay media..

That new Bear City movie also looks like a huge joke, not worth buying on DVD.

I was curious about that. I missed the out on film thing. I did actually enjoy bear cub and chef's special (second one isn't bear but similar to the other movie in some ways.) I was actually thinking about renting bear city when it comes out. I guess I'll have to read more about it.

More than anything I think it's the fur. Even if a guy is skinny and he has fur he sometimes shaves it off. Or sometimes is told he needs to shave it off. The weight is also part of the negative stereotype but more than anything it's the fur. You are correct at how "Bears" are mentioned but dismissed. I've heard it mentioned once on a radio station as "Aren't those the big gay guys" and than that was it. I think a lot of people are aware of the existence of "Bears" (as in gay men) and just dismiss it.

It just amazes me how much hate there is towards furry guys. "Eww bush", "OMG a hairy back Brazilian wax it" and etc. Hair is awesome and natural :D

And yeah I understand why bears generally go for their own kind. The gay community is such a mess sometimes. Apparently the advertisement works so go for it.
 
I remember when we were cruised by that guy in Anaheim...or I should say when he cruised ME...:lol:

Yeah, unfortunately there are bad apples in every group. And I've heard Midwestern bears aren't nearly so judgmental as big city coastal bears. But I have no personal experience there.

And there are those bears who like chasers.

You wouldn't believe how many Facebook ads I'm subjected to, for hair removal. I keep telling them I'm offended and they keep serving them up.
 
I think the "bear" look is a good one as long as the guy isn't overweight and doesn't have hair on his back, shoulders or a forest of hair.

Fat free Bears or Otters, or even Wolves would be a better name for them.

Facebook is really stupid like that. I joined a gay group (Forgot which one) and all of a sudden I get stupid ads for gay dating sites and other stereotypical things. I don't think they can be removed because that's part of you're agreement and consent for using facebook. That's how they are most likely allowed to get away with it.

And unfortunately people buy that hair remover crap.

I had a bear tell me I was an otter. I've seen the website for Otter Fashions. They seem to use actor Charlie David as a spokesmodel. But, I'm not quite sure what makes someone an otter. "Cause I don't see how I fit into the same group as Charlie David.
 
Otter = skinny bear (furry)
