***Warning - novella ahead***

After a few false starts, summer has finally come to the southern hemisphere in a vaguely sustained sort of way  and I thought I'd take advantage of it to get the ol' body out into the light for a little bit of melanin to last the next few months so I've hit the beach for the last three Saturdays in a row, just for an hour or so at a time, to get things started. Additionally because I can, since I enjoy it and it's nearby, I've opted for the local unofficial nude beach !oops! just 10 minutes from home, between the timeshare/hotel-having Dolphin Beach up at Bloubergstrand and the mega-affluent and uber-trendy Multimillionaire's Row of Sunset Beach a couple of kilometers further south towards Milnerton. (!) What could possibly go wrong?

It's a largely wind-swept collection of sand and dunes with nothing touristy/beachy nearby, like bathrooms or a Coke stand, so it's usually pretty empty apart from runners, dog-walkers, the occasional family and kite-surfers if it's windy on the waterline and beach, and a small clutch of like-minded gay/bi guys (rarely if ever women, since nobody minds them doing that at the other, more populated beaches. I think I've seen two topless ladies there in the last three years) getting their kit off out of sight in the dunes, as well as the occasional gawker, and this has made it a cruising spot of note over the years. Surprisingly a lot of people don't know that, but to anyone with a half-trained eye it is pretty obvious that something funny is going on since the guys are usually not dressed for the beach at all. On weekdays, there are guys in suits and ties stalking the dunes in 35 degree Centigrade (almost 100F) weather. As I said, it's pretty obvious that something dubious is happening. [-X

This is of course where the problem lies - those guys who are just trying to get some sun are bombarded by a never-ending stream of die-hard and extremely persistent hopefuls looking for some action, It's constant harassment and downright unpleasant. I realise that the more times you cast your line the more fish you're likely to get, but it gets pretty old pretty quickly. It's been mostly but not exclusively (maybe 80%) older guys in my experience - last Saturday's pick of the bunch was a pensioner on crutches, for fuck's sake, looking to break his neck in all that sand - although, according to a dude I was sunning with two weeks ago, it exists pretty equally across the age spectrum and depends largely on what time you happen to be there and what else is happening around town that day as to when the younger crowd are out en masse.

Three reasons why it bugs me: :-({|=
1. it's unpleasant and annoying.
The guys are far too persistent; I had to threaten one of them with violence when he decided I was playing hard to get and touched me, and then actually get a little violent when he thought I was kidding and touched me again. Even then he wouldn't leave me alone and hovered around offering services and trying to convince me to come home with him. These guys don't seem to get that some of us are really there for the sun/beach and not for a hook-up and we really don't want to have to spend three minutes out of every five explaining that to every hopeful who walks past and tries his luck, sometimes more than once. The first Saturday it was quiet and really pleasant, but the last two have just been chock full of interruptions.

2. it's creepy.
You're lying there catching some sun, reading a book or whatever and the next thing you look up and some dude six feet away has snuck up on you and has his hard-on sticking out of his pants and is making come-to-bed eyes at you while stroking it in what he wrongfully assumes is a seductive manner. If he really wants to use me as wank fodder, fine, I suppose, but at least have the decency to do it quietly and like out of my face, you know? I'm not lying there in an exhibitionist porn pose; just face down reading a sci-fi novel or malaria journal - hardly screaming "sex please!" as far as body language goes, imo, even to the biggest geek-lover out there.

3. you're going to ruin it for everyone!
It's an unofficial nude beach since those are kinda illegal here in .za. However, the cops have better things to do with their time and limited resources/manpower and have basically said they won't act unless there is a complaint. We tend to get naked in the dunes, off the beaten track, so we're out of sight of the dog-walkers and kite-surfers so they won't have cause to complain but someone is eventually going to complain that people are sexing in the dunes and it's all going to go pear-shaped.

So since I've never ever done the classic cruising thing my question is this, in bold for clarity: does this just sorta go with the territory and we're being hyper-sensitive, or are the cruisers simply out of line? And on a more wishful note, how can I manage to exude some sort of "don't cruise me" menace so that people will just leave me alone? I'm happy to live and let live since I know my being naked there is also illegal, but these guys surely need to get the message.

I didn't read all of that and didn't someone make the same thread like 2 weeks ago?

Anyway, yeah most of these cruiser types are gross and creepy. Especially the ones who can't take no for an answer.

I have never encountered anyone that pushy. Most guys will wait for you to make eye contact before they approach.

Why cruise when you have a computer? There are so many sites on which to find a man that crusing seems like a waste of time.

Well if you put yourself in that situation then what do you expect. Not saying you are wrong for just sun bathing but like you said it comes with the territory. If you get fed up find a new nude beach.

^Dude, it happens at both our unofficial ones, by all accounts.

I've never been to the other one, the infamous Sandy Bay out in Llandudno, on account of it's miles away from me but apparently the cruising is worse there than at the one I go to because it's a well-known spot. The man in the street doesn't know that there is nakedness between Dolphin and Sunset since it is such a quiet stretch of beach with much nicer, more efficient and user-friendly beaches flanking it. In fact, I suspect the average Capetonian couldn't find Sunset Beach on a map of Cape Town - it's all the way out near the Northern Suburbs and thus deeply un-cool for the hip and trendy. We're apparently quite cliquey here, you see.

Does anyone else hit the nude beach from time to time - if yes, does this sort of thing happen at all of them?

People out cruising aren't playing games, they're out there trying to find sex right then. I don't know how many times people online have flaked on me. Plus, there's zero chance of the other person lying about their appearance.

you seems to be too afraid of them.
They might be your friend and useful.

Anyway i haven't met a cruiser yet.

"I've opted for the local unofficial nude beach"

My mind kinda started wandering after that. !oops! What was the question again?
;)

Before we embark on a lengthy discussion on cruising, you have to go to the Cockring in Amsterdam.
