Beware.. Opinionated
This is to all of you iPhone users down in the states, I'm just curious about your opinions, complaints, and praises, of the iPhone, so I'll be know what to expect, albeit partially, when it comes up north.
PLEASE READ: To register, turn off your VPN (iPhone users- disable iCloud); you can re-enable the VPN after registration. You must maintain an active email address on your account: disposable email addresses cannot be used to register.
Also, O2 havnt released any information on how capped the unlimited data use is by the fair usage policy, but rumors are suggesting it is only going to be limited to a petty 600 meg.
10:24 - Q: What's the contract length, and does unlimited usage truly mean unlimited?
Matthew: "18 months contract. There is a limit: 1,400 internet pages per day would break the deal as part of fair usage agreement."
I wouldn't know anything about it. but dont listen to Cum_Slave either, cause he knows just as little about how the phone actually works in day to day life to.This is to all of you iPhone users down in the states, I'm just curious about your opinions, complaints, and praises, of the iPhone, so I'll be know what to expect, albeit partially, when it comes up north.
It is well known, talked about, and joked on how Steve Jobs is a arrogant person. And no one debates that he isnt a brilliant leader at Apple. He has done more to make that company amazing than any other CEO in it's history.Hey, I know enough not to spend £269 on one at ridiculous tariffs lol. People that do/will buy them in the UK are pure dumbasses.
Look at the UK prices and yes I know plenty of how 'well' the phone works compared to the 'better' alternatives. But i'm not going there again.
Steve is a pure jackass in the UK presentation. His answers to the questions given are more retarted then what a 10 year old school kid would give. The comment on the 2MP camera just about sums it all up.
The N95 is still the top selling phone in the UK, just about everyone that wants the latest and most up to date phone have one, while plenty others like me are waiting for the K850i. The I-phone has no place in the UK at its prices. It wont be able to compete.
No one is going to 'downgrade' from an N95 or K850i to an I-phone.
Dont just take my word for it, heres the discussion
iPhone on O2 is a rip-off
You dont know how the UK market or how phone prices work over here.
There are very few people that will be interested in buying the I-phone over here, by few I mean apple fan boys like you.
HELLO! Second generation iPhone. Get with the picture man. The 3G iPhones will be the second gen phones.Firstly apple dont actually allow you to use third party apps on the I phone. Using them is a gamble like unlocking it is.
Secondly its not what I think, or what an apple fan boy like you thinks, but what the public in the UK thinks.
READ THE GODDAMN DISCUSSION
You dont know how the UK market or how phone prices work over here. Customers have never had to pay this much for a phone on a contract before, never mind one that is so poorly specified.
Also 3G is pretty much in high demand. Mobile broadband useage is currently booming in the UK, with more and more people using their mobile phone as their modem.
N95 is £19.99 on £35 a month with 900 minutes or 1800 texts (500 minutes and 800 texts if you split them), and is the best selling phone of the year here.
K850i is released in a weeks time, its preorder sim-free prices are lower then the N95 so it will likely be free on this tariff.
I-phone is £269 on £35 a month for 200 minutes and 200 texts and released in November. People that are rich enough to afford one already have an N95. People that cant afford one wont be buying one, and people simply looking for the best tariff definately wont be buying one. There are very few people that will be interested in buying the I-phone over here, by few I mean apple fan boys like you.
3G and HSDPA arent apps that can be added by software. A 5 MP camera with Xennon flash isnt an app that can be added by software. Expandable memory and removable batteries arent apps. GPS isnt an app, neither is a built in accelerometer, nor is the mineral glass screen.
Ok the the I phone has a touch screen. and.... erm..... it its bigger. Thats it.
Cum_Slave, I will begin to believe what you say when you show me a degree in economics. You act like I do with something. If I don't like it, than no other European will either. Yes you have phone variety, so do Americans (although you'll talk about our lack of technological knowledge of whats "better") yet you know nothing of customer wants and needs. You fail to understand about phone availability in different countries.
The I-phone sold 1,000,000 in the US, where 3G isnt widely used and at the time of the I-phones release it was the most advanced handset released there. They didnt have the Nokia N95 in America, not even the SE K800i. With little competition, the I-phone flew off the shelves and yes it was better then the competiotion - Motorolla.
In europe however, the best selling phone this year has been the N95, and there are many more people lining up to get the SE K850i then there ever will be for the I-phone here.
Consumers that have already bought an N95 and will be buying a K850i will have absolutely no interest in buying the I-phone. They already have a better phone, for cheaper, on a much better contract. There is a very small consumer base left in Europe for the I-phone to reach (those people would be the dumb people that just buy things that look pretty).
I believe I've made my point, lets just wait untill the I-phone is released and becomes a complete failure in Europe.
Also no one really cares about the I phone 2. It isnt out yet, and when it is released, current I-phone customers will still only be halfway through their contracts and unable to upgrade to one. Even by the time it is released, the other mobile phone manufacturers will be way ahead of apple. Why wait untill 2008 for a 3G I phone when we already have 3G handsets available?
America has to be the worst market in the world for comparing Mobile phone sales, not just because of the I-phone, but also because of all the garbage Motorolla phones that were such a big success there. The market seems to be way behind the rest of the world.
People tend to like to keep their stuff longer than a year or so. Most people prefer to keep it for long periods of time. We don't randomly run out and buy the latest greatest thing. It's sometimes because we don't have enough money, or just don't feel the need for it.I have to agree with certain points in your argument CS.
When lived in the states I was quite amazed at how 'backward' some technology was. Most homes didn't have electric kettles and many were still using washer/tumble drier combo machines that had been replaced here in Ireland many years beforehand by far more advanced machines.
Televisions were also around 5 or more years behind in most of the homes I visited - and no they weren't all 'trailer trash' people I was hanging out with.
They are more advanced in other ways though - they had free local calling many many years before us, they had the Blackberry long before us, also they had Space Shuttles long before us too - actually we still haven't got any Space Shuttles. Have any Brits or Irish walked on the moon yet?![]()
I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you. I was just trying to explain why you saw really outdated stuff in our homes. Now now Jake Gyllenhaal's BF - I was giving you an under-handed compliment.
I think Americans concentrate on things like cars and stuff like that whereas here in Ireland everything is local and we tend to walk to the shops (store to you) and get the bus to anything further so we spend money on home appliances (or at least we did until this Celtic Tiger thing happened). My family was quite poor but we saved and borrowed to buy modern home appliances - a car wasn't even on our list of priorities.
Also, cultural differences dictate certain things - like we drink a lot of tea over here so an electric kettle is essential. Then there's geographic and weather considerations - like it rains a lot here so tumble driers just had to be bought.
The Brits (along with the French) built the best commercial plane ever - Concorde. The Americans have the Blackbird (I have a pic of me standing by one of those) and the Shuttle and the Moon landings and lots of other BIG stuff. All I'm saying is that you guys seem to concentrate on the bigger stuff - it's a generalization.
