Like many, it depends on the problem.
If it's something I realize I can't do on my own, I'll ask for help instantly. If it's something I think I can do, I'll give it my best shot and if it doesn't work out, then I'll ask for help.
Though, for the most part, I do prefer to work alone. Not because I want the glory of the result or because I think I'm better at something than someone else; but because its sometimes easier to get things done when you only have one viewpoint to operate from.
That isn't always the case, though...

When I'm completely clueless about the things, yes.
But I have issues asking for help for things I am able to do, even when I'm in desperate need for second hand, perhaps due to my somewhat OCD traits. I prefer to do things alone, fearing either a second person might ruin the result or I will be regarded as being too needy.
