so at work recently ive noticed that customers have been getting even more demanding and interrupting me while i am helping others more often than before.
im not sure what is causing this other than people are just getting ruder.

how do you deal with interruptions?

raise one eyebrow and go back to what I'm doing

This is true I was doing the paper work for someone who passed away and as the son was sitting with me doing it, a rude person stands over him expecting me to stop everything and help her.

I tell them I will be with them after I finish helping the other person. Usually they give them the stink eye and they back off without me having to get grumbly.

Ok, I'm REALLY sorry to be a dick, and in other circumstances I'd be giving you advice, but this is your third topic about your work place, and it really has NOTHING to do with either coming out, or relationships, or bisex talk. Are you sure this is the right place to be looking for this type of advice? :/

Crappy video but had to throw it in there...

Fedco stores used to have this sign here and there throughout the store:
"The customer is not an interruption of your work. The customer is your work."

I think it's some sort of sense of entitlement. People are now raised from an early age to think we're all winners, special, important, unique. The sad truth is that most are non of those.

It gets worse as the wealth of the clientele increases.

I talked to my manager about it and apparently he gets it more than I do and hes a little more resentful about it.

But today I had some lady ask how much something her child was holding costs, i had to inform her snobby bimbo self that I had not scanned it yet so i could not tell her. Not to mention there was a price tag on the product itself, but thats another story.

Many places have reduced the number of employees dealing with the public. And too many people dealing with the public allow one customer to continue "visiting" after the problem has been solved. Customer service gets worse and worse. On the phone , "all our representatives are busy" is eventually followed by a non -English speaker. No wonder customers are getting more impatient.

Similar to this for my company, more customers, less staff, current staff being stretched beyond what is recommended to provide adequate customer service. We are barely managing to keep up with the usual customer flow, so it gives no room for people that actually NEED help, or something explained to them, ends up defeating the purpose of my role.

I take pride in managing my staff well and having the best customer service (nationally for my company) when I do serve customers, however I can barely keep up with my paperwork let alone sorting out complaints and issues that get directed to me because xxxx has been made redundant, therefore I have to cover their work.
