D.A.: Walker's Stealthy Vote Broke Wisconsin's Open Meetings Law

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser is up for re-election on April 5th. So what does a GOPer do? They run to conservative radio to spread the news that his opponent would vote against the union busting bill. This may be the first GOPer to lose his election. We can only hope so.

GOP Judge: "100%" Chance Union-Busting Bill Will End Up in WI Supreme Court

Earlier today, a county judge in Wisconsin temporarily blocked the implementation of the budget repair bill. While this is an exciting development, no matter how the county

judge ends up ruling, the ultimate legality of the bill will be determined by the Wisconsin state Supreme Court.

You don't have to just take my word for it. Yesterday, in an interview with a local conservative radio host, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser said it himself:

So much for an independent judiciary.

Meanwhile, in D.C., Obama has been feeding the trend to politicize the judiciary with his SCOTUS appointments. He should set an example by choosing competent people acceptable to a broad majority, not ones pleasing to the left wing of the Democrats. We lost a judge of that quality recently in Arizona; Obama would do well to find others like him.

Not that that would help immediately in Wisconsin, but it would help in the long run.

Hasn't every SCOTUS Justice appointment of at least the past 30 to 40 years been political? I'd even include (former) Justice Souter in that list, who (if I remember correctly) was thought to be very conservative, but surprised a lot of people by leaning much more centrist with a strong liberal streak.

I don't think Carter or Ford nominated any. Nixon nominated a bunch; he also had several nominations voted down. In my view, it was the Democrats who politicized that process.

IIRC, the next president to nominate any was Reagan. He was the first president to openly use ideology as a standard for his picks. Since then, that's been the way the game is played.

It shouldn't be. The questions asked should be: if the nominee is a judge, have many of his/her opinions been overturned? if the nominee is a law professor or other professional, is he/she widely respected by colleagues?

And every candidate should have a record of strongly supporting the whole Bill of Rights, interpreting each amendment as strongly as the First is.

^^Yeah, I found this in my junk mail box from 3-18-11

The League of American Voters is having an urgent need for money to help Scott Walker keep his union busting bill from being repealed. Also, the Senators and House members that are expecting recalls need to be helped to stay in WI's Congress. Poor GOPers having a hard time just living in Wisconsin. Can you imagine the recalls and repeal going through and Wisconsin returning to normal? I can, and I hope the Unions get their way, and Wisconsin's constituents have their way with GOPers in the next election.
Here is an email I received from the League on 3-18 that ended up in my junk box. For those of you that lean to the right, you can go to www.newsmax.com and donate or whatever! I searched the newsmax site for a link, but couldn't find one. The search engine of the newsmax could find no link for this.

An Urgent Message from Our Sponsor the League of American Voters

When Gov. Scott Walker first introduced his budget bill he knew it would be an uphill battle. Obama’s bloated public unions swore they’d use every ounce of muscle to defeat him.

They told Scott Walker point-blank, “If you don’t back down, we’re going to make you pay the price for it.”But Scott Walker refused to be bullied and he’s courageously taken them on. That’s because he understands what’s at stake. Wisconsin teeters dangerously on the edge of bankruptcy, while the big public unions line their pockets with lavish pensions and six-figure salaries.

The power-hungry gluttony of Obama’s bloated public unions knows no bounds. And speaking of greed. This week I told you about how the liberal Secretary of State Doug La Follette is intentionally delaying the implementation of Scott Walker’s reform law.

In Wisconsin, new laws don’t take effect until they’re published by the secretary of state with the Legislative Reference Bureau.La Follette is delaying the law until March 25, because he’s hoping for a last-ditch court decision to save the union’s bacon. But he’s also stalling so his public union cronies — like the “meter maid” union for parking ticket writers — can rush through new union contracts under the old law. According to the Journal-Sentinel, one Milwaukee union for 390 clerical workers and parking checkers has rammed through a 2 percent pay hike for themselves.

Now here’s the real outrage – it’s a retroactive pay hike going all the way back to 2007!For his part, La Follette thinks the delay was “the best thing for the state of Wisconsin.” That’s simply disgusting. vBut it’s just the tip of the iceberg. This is only a fraction of what’s to come.b And Gov. Walker warned us about these shameful public union deals when he appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press.

"We've seen local union after local union rush to their school boards, their city councils, their technical school boards and rush through contracts in the past two weeks that had no contributions to the pension and no contribution to healthcare,” said Walker. “In Janesville, they actually were pushing through a pay increase.”

The fact is, Gov. Scott Walker and his supporters are now being vindicated. Every single day, more and more Wisconsin taxpayers learn the truth about Scott Walker’s courageous stand against Obama’s bloated public unions.

That’s because the League of American Voters is hard at work in Wisconsin with our intensive media campaign exposing Obama and the big unions.

Our intensive media campaign, including powerful radio ads and telephone calls, as well as a massive Internet outreach, has worked in Wisconsin. But we must continue to do more to help Scott Walker because the unions and pro-Obama groups continue to pour millions into the state to turn back the clock and make Gov. Walker and his allies pay a heavy price.

The fact is, the battle for Wisconsin is not over. The big government unions and Obama allies are moving to recall more than a half dozen legislators who supported Scott Walker.

And they’ve filed several lawsuits to reverse our huge victory. The big public unions are even trying to buy control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, with an election to be held on April 5th!

Now is not the time to take the foot off of the pedal. Obama’s bloated public unions know they must destroy Scott Walker. But you and the League can stop them.

It’s urgently critical for the League to keep its radio ads up on the air. We need to stay in the fight.

Please do whatever you can to help.

Sincerely,

Bob Adams
Executive Director

P.S. The League’s powerful radio ads must continue to run in Wisconsin. But the battle for Wisconsin is not over. The big government unions and Obama allies are moving to recall more than a half dozen legislators who supported Scott Walker. And they’ve filed several lawsuits to reverse our huge victory. What’s more, the big public unions are using every dirty trick in thebook to stop Gov. Walker. The League is the leading national group fighting to support Gov. Walker as we prepare for other state battles ahead. Dick Morris says the League is the "most effective grassroots organization in America." Please help us stay effective by Donating Here Now
