I'm feeling pretty confident that it will pass. This was the biggest obsticle.

If you live in NH, ME, or OH (where there are Republican senators likely to break away from the party on this), be sure to call your senators and tell them to vote for the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill.

P.S. The article forgot to mention that Scott Brown also said he'd break from his party and vote against fillibuster of the bill.

How many Republicans do you think will actually support the repeal of DADT? My guess, is that we fags will be the flavor of the week in Foxpublican attacks. Immigration and the mosque in NYC are running out of gas for their hate, so they'll fire up the anti-homo hate agenda. It won't surprise me to see Liebertard (I), Ben Nelson (whack job Democrat), and every other Republican other than Scott Brown filibuster it.

In fact I'll be surprised (and pleased) if in fact it does pass, even if I am doubtful.

gotta cater to that bible belt during elections. Siding with the fags is bad for republican business in the land of cotton and hate.

Why do you say this? Ben Nelson, Joe Lieberman, and Susan Collins support repeal. Is there something else in the bill that they don't like? Please be specific. I'd like to know.

At least 4 Republicans will vote for the defense bill. Dick Lugar and Scott Brown have said they will, while Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are expected to as well. Other strong contenders are George Voinovich, Judd Gregg, and Lisa Murkowski, all of whom have in the past supported some form of GLBT rights legislation and will be leaving office in January. So far, not one Democrat has indicated voting against the bill.

I'm just giving examples of typical Senators that refuse to support regular and usual Democratic principles. And Liebertard has said he'd vote for something on a few occasions in the past 2 years, and then changed his mind at the last minute, and trying to torpedo it.

Are any of them really for it or against it? No idea, don't care really. I refuse to get my hopes up on anything in the US's political sphere. The US is so fucked up right now, nothing surprises me.

Well no offense but doing that while ignoring their stated policy positions on this issue kind of waters down the discussion with the same vapid characterizations that the left (and those on here) make fun of Fox News and the talking heads on the right for.

No, Liebertard has flip flopped against voting with the Democrats on a number of occasions. So frankly, the little, whiney, sad sack, liar, has no trust from me. If he can't say what he means, and means what he says, he can go pound sand up his ass in Israel, which is the country he is more concerned with than America. I despise the asshat.

Sorry man, that's really weak reasoning.

You offered some vague nonspecific feeling that certain people you personally disliked for other reasons might oppose this, based on no factual information.

Senator Lieberman himself introduced leglistation to repeal DADT in the Senate.

There is no ambiguity among the informed about his position on the issue. There is no chance he would vote to filibuster it.

"In the case of Nelson, who knows. He really is an evil little social conservatard prick."

Nelson voted in favor of repeal in committee.

"Scott Brown is I think less likely to be on the right side of this than Collins and Snowe. Their track record on gay rights is somewhat similar to that of Lieberman."

Brown was quoted after voting against repeal in committee that he would not vote to fillibuster the Defense Authorization Bill.

There will be a few "Bluedog" Dems that vill deviate for sure, but same with some moderate republicans in favor of it, over all, I just hope they balance each other out so it will pass. There is no need DADT, if you are willing to serve/have served the government should be kissing your ass every time it can, and not be forced to hide your identity.

A federal judge today ruled that the ban on gay and lesbian troops serving openly in the military is unconstitutional. As the Los Angeles Times explains, Judge Virginia A. Phillips found that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" doesn't protect military readiness but, rather, undermines it.
Specifically, Judge Phillips wrote:
Taken as a whole, the evidence introduced at trial shows that the effect of the Act has been, not to advance the Government's interests of military readiness and unit cohesion, much less to do so significantly, but to harm that interest. The testimony demonstrated that since its enactment in 1993, the Act has harmed efforts of the all-volunteer military to recruit during wartime. The Act has caused the discharge of servicemembers in occupations identified as "critical" by the military, including medical professionals and Arabic, Korean, and Farsi linguists. At the same time that the Act has caused the discharge of over 13,000 members of the military, including hundreds in critical occupations, the shortage of troops has caused the military to permit enlistment of those who earlier would have been denied entry because of their criminal records, their lack of education, or their lack of physical fitness.

Scott Brown isn't stupid. He wants to keep his seat and his power. He's also aware that he's representing an incredibly socially liberal state. Therefore, he's not going to vote against repeal. No way in hell.

Also, it's ABOUT DAMN TIME they voted on this issue!

He already voted against it in committee.

yeah and I agree that he will likely vote to bring it to the floor. Just saying that the justification that he won't vote against it ever because MA is a socially liberal state is already kinda invalid given his committee vote.

He will not filibuster the floor vote on the whole bill, but he still may vote to strike DADT repeal from the bill if that comes up in debate.

This.

In case it has escaped your notice, the paid repub ops have spent all summer trying to soften up the homo vote; testing them, as it were, to see if tepid support for homo rights would translate into votes for the GOP. They've been doing this across the internet and through a whole bunch of tethered goats who were sent out with placating noises about gay marriage, coming out and DADT.

I'm guessing it hasn't worked. The machine has started to go silent. I think they may be realizing that they have burned too many bridges.

The best and last wedge issue that the GOP has is the homo agenda and given the chance, they are going to play it to the hilt.
