LOL, you know, you're right. I apologise unreservedly and withdraw my remark. Let me extend my congratulations on what should be a day of celebration. I will add on a serious note, this is not a day to be grateful for merely getting equal treatment - the entitlement to that dignity was always there. However it's a great day to be proud of what has been accomplished over the opposition of petty bigots. And it sets the stage for future victories to come.

I get what you are saying. My main issue is about him not halting the discharges.

People lost their jobs and their careers while he is / was President.

And civil rights should not wait.

The military is really pecuiliar when it comes to a President dictating how things work. Obama listened to senior military officials and ordered studies covering DADT's effectiveness. Now the military and right wing can't say he overturned DADT without their input. Smart.

Your post sounds like more of, "I want it now now now." Obama is a politician that knows the constitution. He said it was going to get repealed before two years in office and it will happen on Monday.

He kept his promise while not pulling a Bush in forcing the Justice Department to overturn laws the President deems unnecessary.

DADT has been relegated to the ash heap of history; perhaps McCain should follow.

I have a number of friends who have been emailing me...some who can now come out and be honest of who they are for the first time since they joined the military.

Glad to see there area few Republicans with balls...who stood up to their party and did what was right. On the House side, my former Congressman from Michigan who is devout Christian Reformed...voted to repeal against his party's wishes and I salute him as well!

I think the credit here goes to Harry Reid more than the President. Although it was certainly important for Obama to declare that he was determined that DADT would end on his watch. But it easily could have died (or been put off for at least 2 years) if not for Reid''s, Lieberman's and Snowe's deal making.

No LostLover. What I mostly expected from him was to halt the discharges. And just a little more passion. I am not ashamed of criticizing the President. He's not above that. Remember how no one could talk badly about Bush? Expressing discontent is a right.

Careers were ruined under his watch. He could have stopped them.

People are celebrating this.. I don't quite get it. This should not have been necessary in the first place! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's repealed.. but why the need for such a ban all those years ago? It's stupid imo.. For example, openly gays have been allowed to serve here since 1979.
