Re: Dame Edna

Great collection there OzGuy...I really like Dame Edna, Barry Humphries is a genius.

I offer this very short clip (18 seconds long) to demonstrate the perfect comedic timing of Barry Humphries

Re: Dame Edna

I would have loved to see "Dame Edna: The Spectacle" in New York, but I wasn't able to make the time.

I have several of her DVDs, and, if I know she going to be on TV here in the US, I make sure I see it.

Thanks for those funny vids.

Re: Dame Edna

I love Dame Edna, she's fabulous! My aunt was so distraught that the Dame has better legs than her =P

Re: Dame Edna

I just sang that "Dame Ednas Neighbourhood Watch" jingle when I saw this thread.

I used to watch it late at night when I was like 10 or something. I didn't realize she was really a he until like 8 years later!

edit: ps I loved Madge! she was so strange. She couldn't talk or something

Re: Dame Edna

LOL Wonderful, ozguy, thx for the clips. She's like a force of nature or something... and ur right, she takes right over from gentlemanly Parkinson; recently saw another clip where Lily Savage does the same. Would kill to see those two together!

Re: Dame Edna

Re: Dame Edna

I've watched the "Dame" for years and years and too love HER!

I still think she's a Gay Icon, don't you?

Dame Edna Everage—the alter ego of Sir Barry Humphries—can get away with quite possibly anything.

But beyond the camp getup—the unsightly frocks, the purple wigs and rhinestone-studded cat glasses(remember, Elton John actually copied the "Dame", for she wore the outrageous glasses first!)—there’s something more.

What Dame Edna does so bloody well (could NOT help but put a "British slang" in there) is play the brassy and ballsy (pun intended) fruity old bat.

Eternally stuck in a twilight zone where it is always somewhere in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, Dame Edna is living in a time capsule where the past is always a foreign, and funny, place.

I think Dame Edna has done more to give in-sight into the real Australia than any other famous person............don't you?(*8*)(*8*):kiss:
