Dame Edna Everage [merged]

Re: Dame Edna

If any of you out there in cyberspace have acsess to or subscribe to NETFLIX, they have several DVD discs of "her" television shows that were done for the UK 's London Weekend Television channel. Just type in Dame Edna in the search box.

Re: Dame Edna

what about poor little Sandy Stone??

Re: Dame Edna

Call me old fashioned possums, but I got out my dvds of her old shows and had many a laugh.

I particularly enjoyed the two "audiences with Dame Edna" with the celebrity audience asking her questions. It was so strange seeing all these people 20 - 25 years younger than they are now.

And wouldn't you have just loved to fuck Jason Donovan. He was 21 when he was on her show and one of the most gorgeous men in the world.

And I went to his website last night, and he's still pretty hot, though now married with two kids.

My new crush impersonates Dame Edna...

It was so funny tonight. We were talking and I was blabbing about superhero's and he goes " Uhh..wanna know my secret identity?" and I'm like "uh sure."

So he shows me this picture...

Me: Thats so familliar...how do I know that?

Him: Dame Edna....

Me: -GASP-

Then he went on about how he thought I would freak out if I found out without him telling me.

It was the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life. :)

Re: My new crush impersonates Dame Edna...

Dame Edna Everage otherwise known as Barry Humphries.

Re: My new crush impersonates Dame Edna...

Lol! Yeah, he showed me a clip of him singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid. Thar was great because it's my favorite Disney song.

Re: Dame Edna

^^I heard news of this the other day.

I love Dame Edna and I love Michael Feinstein, but I can't get my head around the idea of them working together.

Re: Dame Edna

Thanks for resurrecting this old thread of mine ... enjoyed the clips all over again! ..|

Re: Dame Edna

I can't wait for her show to start in NYC. We are going to get a group together to go see her. Her last show in the city was great. I thought I was going to bust a gut laughing.....Dame Edna is the best...

Dame Edna is gay?

I have loved Dame Edna for years and enjoy watching her on YouTube. I was reading some of the comments, and was surprised that someone mentioned that the USA is "offended" by her, because we perceive it as "gay". Then someone said it's because were "homophobic", and that's why she's not as popular here. I don't know if it's just a different sense of humor, lack of exposure, etc? But I've never thought of it as being a "gay act".

It's a man in drag...

So was Milton Berle, and he was a Hollywood and television legend. Theatres wouldn't even open on nights that Uncle Miltie was on.

I'm thinking it's not so much a 'gay' thing which makes Dame Edna unpopular as it is a vastly different form of humour.

Re: Dame Edna is gay?

Mr. Humphries is a genius.

When I was offered the part of Frida I turned it down, and she was the second choice. I said 'I'm not playing the role of a woman with a moustache and a monobrow, and I'm not having same-sex relations on the screen' ... I'm not racist. I love all races, particularly white people. You know, I even like Roman Catholics.

Uncle Miltie - all that and a bag of chips.

Re: Dame Edna is gay?

I'm not in the mood to wiki him, or Google him, but from what I remember, he is a straight married male. He is a comedian, just doing his job.
According to Wikipedia, he's currently married to his fourth wife.

Re: Dame Edna is gay?

How successful does the man have to be? He ran a series in the US years ago, and that is typically all he has ever done in any country. He is quite senior, you know. He's immensely popular and his shows are always huge sell-outs. Sir Barry Humphries is knighted, too.

But I digress, addressing instead the secondary issue. The question of whether he's gay can be answered resoundingly with a "no." There is no question really, except here apparently, and it manages to go without question here in Australia, and in the UK.

The origin of the Dame Edna character is the woman who speaks on behalf of the country town to welcome officious visitors. She is almost always the wife of the pastor, doctor or local pollie, a member of the CWA and has been recognised at some point as the most culturally aware and informed of the township citizenry. She would always welcome Humphries and his fellow players as they toured country Victoria as students and grads. She has no part in Humphries' personal life and is only a character, spoken of in the third person and treated as a costume is treated - able to be put on or taken off, with the only value of the role being satirical, and of course, financial.
