This sort of thing happened in Canada back in the 90s. The extreme right wing took over the conservative powerbase and REALLY fired up the party faithful but turned off the moderates and swing votes resulting in a HUGE liberal majority.

The Republican Party Faithful were all marching through the streets celebrating nominations of people like Sharon Angle and Rand Paul until it became clear that letting them talk was a very bad idea. Sharon Angle's disastrous candidacy has pretty much cemented the win for HArry Reid, only recently thought of as a no-chance candidate.

Ben Quayle did win the nomination but with only 33% of Republicans behind him. He might fire up the base but his obvious stupidity, coupled with the "Oh shit, not another Bush Era son wanting in" factor could seriously work against the Republicans on a national level.

You forgot to mention that in a photo op he had children with him, claiming they were his, but in fact were his nephews or nieces.

Keep them afraid, uneducated and superstitious is the Republican hope. That's the only way they can get elected. Scare the old white people by demonizing groups (immigrants, homosexuals, communists, minorities, Muslims) and they might get back in. I suspect it's backfiring on them now.

Someone sent me a private message a little while ago asking how any gay man can be a Republican and support this bunch right now. It's easy to answer. They're scared, uneducated, and misinformed. A lot of it also has to do stubbornness. Can't admit they were wrong.

What's really frightening is that there actually are people who believe the bullshit that Justapixel© posts here. The people who post as justapixel don't believe it, they just get paid to... but there are people who do.

Our country is barely crawling along but Obama stopped the free fall. The big corporations want to continue that.

Pixie, here's a history lesson for you since you appear not to know about the Presidents..... Jimmy Carter didn't have a second term. His term ended January 20, 1981, almost 30 years ago. Ronald Reagan was elected and during his two terms he ran up massive deficits and corruption was rampant.

Following Reagan's failure was another failure, George H W Bush. We were involved in war, corruption and recession with his failed presidency. He was voted out of office after one term. Why do Republicans forget he only served one term and was booted out?

Then came the successful Presidency of Bill Clinton. Two terms and the American economy was booming.

Then came the worst president in history, George W Bush. Was handed the office by his father's friends in the supreme court. America was attacked by terrorists. Lied about WMD's and brought us into two wars. Ran the economy into the ground. Gave the country to the few wealthiest people in the country. Broke laws, tortures people. Wiped their asses with the constitution. Divided the country like no other. Too terrible to think about.

The current President is Barack Obama. He's not quite half-way through his first term and his second term will begin January 2013. He is cleaning up the mess the former president put the country in. He won the Nobel Peace Prize. It will take a while longer to put us back on top, but he will.
